Retal - Retal is the most populous landmass in the entire world, consisting of the countries of Everton, Fel’tari, and The Kingdom of Beasts. It also contains the infamous Deadlands. It has quite a temperate climate, with rolling grasslands and hills along with forests spread around, with a few jungles to the North near the equator. Located in the eastern hemisphere, stretching from Fel’tair in the southern hemisphere to The Kingdom of Beasts near the equator.Region
The Deadlands - The creeping undead taint of the land, The Deadlands have existed longer than any living or undead can remember. Said to have been created by The Rift Walker when he became a lich in times long since forgotten. The area has no living plant life, only sturdy weeds and long dead trees. A large number of long forgotten ruins dot the land as Gnolls and Undead serving The Rift Walker roam. Being bordered to the North by Everton and South by Fel’tari, the lich plots whatever dark plan he has set in motion.Notable Locations
The Undead Queen’s Crypt - Over two thousand years ago, Lasrend the Queen of Undead, ruled the primitive lands of Everton and enslaved many of its people. When she was defeated by an army of clerics and paladins, they built and sealed her in this ancient crypt. Her Kobold minions and most loyal servants would later entomb themselves in the crypt alongside their queen. While contained, Lasrend is not dead and many dread the day she may be set free once again.
The Wailing Wood - When the Rift Walker created the Deadlands, many suspect he had drawn all the magical power needed for such a ritual from a magical tree that once stood before the Deadlands became what they are now. The Wailing Wood is a massive dead tree that many living near the Deadlands claim will cry out in the dead of night to the other magical trees in the world. Many scholars and wizards suspect that The Rift Walker continues to draw magic from the tree, thus keeping it from regrowing and spreading life once again.
The Well of Souls - During Lasrend’s rule over the people of Everton, her cult was known to sacrifice many of the living to empower her. These souls were kept within The Well of Souls, for her to consume on mass. Once sealed away, her most loyal Kobolds kept the well safe and continued to perform sacrifices by kidnapping travelers or residents from nearby villages. Many tales of undead Kobolds wielding magic far greater than most of their living kin.
The Dead Citadel - The Rift Walker doesn’t seem concerned about the armies of Humans, as much as he does about the Elves. Thus his defense on Everton’s border is light, but not nonexistent. The Dead Citadel is a fortress and castle set in a small stretch of mountains. Filled with undead servants of the lich, ready to tirelessly defend their master’s land.
The Rift - In the center of the Deadlands stands a massive mountain range. Once inhabited by Dwarves in an age long forgotten, The Rift Walker has taken the Dwarven hold as his own, and continued construction to make it into an impassable barrier. Not a single living thing knows the true extent of the fortress, none know how deep it goes and how many rooms and halls wind through it. None have been brave enough or lived long enough to see the true size.
Gnoll Main Camp - The Gnolls have long been the servants of The Rift Walker, and so many of their camps dot the landscape to hunt those who enter the Deadlands. While they have no single leader, they have a large gathering near their dark master’s fortress, ready for his commands.
The Forbidden Cove - Once a profitable port city, even more protected than Pure Tide, they had long fought off the undead hordes of The Rift Walker with little notice from him. However, at the hour of another victory against the dead, a sea serpent took notice of the safety of the cove. The Sea Serpent drew the attention away from the undead, which was quickly followed up by the dead who overwhelmed the city. Now the undead inhabit the port, and are home to the lich’s ruinous fleet.
The Undead Gate - The Elves are the longest standing enemies of The Rift Walker, and it hasn’t gone unnoticed by him. In order to defend the Deadlands from the armies of Fel’tari. The walls are taller than most creatures as the dead do not rest. The only entry point being a gate the size of the walls, where the armies of the dead march forth at their master’s will.
