I'm very glad to hear your suit has made a positive impact on your life! I find that they really have that effect :) I have chronic pain and had to take my last years of schooling at home, so I lost a lot of friends and the ability to make them. It was extremely refreshing to discover the fandom, and meet so many kind and diverse people. I got my first fursuit shortly after joining the fandom -- it was a graduation present and everyone who was gifting me something chipped in together to get it! I made the head myself and with the help of a friend, and while it is not the finest in the world, it is still a great first head, and has done a lot of good work. The people I've met, the places I've been, and the happiness I've inspired have all been more than worth it. My suit has helped me become social again and I cherish every time I've taken it out, even in the summer heat! People don't know the person in the suit or what they're going through, they just know you're a big cuddly kitty, or fox, or dragon, and that they want to hug and high-five you! Sadly due to my illness I haven't held a steady job in quite some time, but when I'm able to save money again I hope to get an improved suit, perhaps several suits, and take them everywhere I can. The ability to create a unique sort of furry joy is something that drew me to fursuiting in the first place and it's what will keep me in suit for as long as I can foresee, despite all the troubles I often have.
