I've been playing DnD for a while now but this is my first bard character. Decided to make him a Tabaxi based on a Torti Cat.
He's a Marshmallow. Genuinely kind, caring, sweet, and a pacifist. He relies on his charm and allure to get through any situation. And when that doesn't work, he can use a bit of glamor and magic to change the outcome of the situation.
Born as an indentured servant to his parents who were serving Lord Colrich of Contis, he grew up not necessarily in the lap of luxury, but for sure he had a very charmed and comfortable life. From a very young age, Lord Colrich took a great liking to him and became a second father figure, helping to raise the boy on how to behave in the royal and noble courts of the kingdom. He also displayed an incredible talent for music. His voice was as beautiful and angelic as his eyes. He could also learn instruments very quickly. From the young age of 7, he started touring with his Lord around from court to court, even entertaining the King of Contis with his musical abilities. Despite all the kingdom being rather Xenophobic to anything outside of humans, elves, and dwarves, Reginald was seen as something truly exotic and alluring. Lord Colrich took full advantage of that and even made the boy his personal bard. When he was 14, a plague swept the land while he was on tour, causing the death of his parents. Lord Colrich did his best to keep taking care of the young Tabaxi, but in a short time, the contract for indentured servitude would be up.
Lord Colrich now was in a hard situation, with the kingdom's Xenophobia, he would have to figure out a way to help protect the boy he had come to care for without jeopardizing his own standing. Employing indentured service was seen as something acceptable, but to keep a Tabaxi as your personal bard in your court for no other reason? That would start to demean the man's standing. A war was on the rise, and things were starting to look worse and worse as the boy's 18th birthday drew closer.
All the while, Reginald was blissfully unaware of all this, serving his lord gladly in every way he could. Reginald loved lord Colrich as his second father and would do anything he asked of him with a genuine smile on his face.
Word spread out as the king proclaimed "The Hero's Call!" The kingdom was getting desperate as the invitation of Orcs started getting closer and closer. They were even starting to get through and attack the enchanted forest, something that was unheard of. The kingdom had a tenuous relationship with the forest as Humans were NOT allowed in by the forest deity, but it helped to serve as a protective barrier and aid in fighting the Orc threat. Now the forest was in danger of being overrun and the King was asking for anyone, any adventurer of any kind to give aid in return for service to the crown.
It was here that Lord Colrich came up with a plan, he had heard that only those purest of heart and non-humans were allowed into the forest. If he could somehow get Reginald there, he would be able to maintain his reputation, and keep the boy safe by having him be in the safety of the forest domain. On the boy's 18th birthday, he gave him a simple last mission. "You are to go to the enchanted forest. When you get there, you will await further instruction from me. I will send you a letter with your next steps."
Reginald, ever faithful to his Lord, took up the task and began his journey to get to the enchanted forest. The boy has no idea what is in store for him, and will be tested to his limits. Though he lacks confidence, he will soon find that he is stronger than he ever imagined, and truly does have the makings of a great hero.
There are of course even more details for this character. Like the fact that Reginald is not the true name that his parents gave him. But that is a story for another day
