On August 3, 2020, my late father passed away at the age of 89 in the hospital from a battle with pneumonia that he contracted in late June of that same year. I was absolutely devastated by the news that my father was on his dying bed as I was unable to visit him since early March last year due to the global pandemic that is still ongoing as I type this. I'll try to recall some of things he told me from his life.
My father lived through the Depression years, losing his toys and his childhood home and being forced to live in a smaller house because of the Depression. He recalled the sinking of the HMS Hood and the attack on Pearl Harbor in '41 when he was ten years old. In the 1950's my father went into the Canadian Navy as a cadet where he almost went to the Korean War and visited Vancouver, BC, as well as Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. In October of 1954, my father survived Hurricane Hazel when it struck the Greater Toronto Area and had to help bail out the basement of his parents' of storm water to which he would contract pneumonia. Later on, he would attend medical school and become a psychologist in the 80's.
As stated in the recent ref sheet of my character, Captain, he would later down his career command a few lake freighters. This particular freighter I am dedicating to my father that my character would skipper.
This is also being posted on my father's 90th birthday.

Though this isn't the only piece of artwork to reference him; the description for the ref sheet of my Pokemon character Samuel that I did this year mentions the struggles he went through in a 1930's setting similar to how my father's childhood was in the same time period.
My father and I used to go down to the wharf (before the pandemic.) I would ride down on my bike; he would come down on one of those scooters meant for old folks from the retirement home he was living in since 2018. We would sometimes have lunch at a restaurant down there that closed down for good because of the pandemic. We also had ice cream down there as well as going on cruises on board a historic steamship within my hometown.
