I have actually hand-fed those wild Canadian Geese... never had a problem with them.

You hand-fed wild geese without problems? How? Geese are notoriously aggressive! There are Chinese police stations that use geese as guard animals instead of dogs!

For wild geese... a standing or a bent over position presents yourself as an aggressor . sitting on a mat, being still and quiet and not making quick or sudden moves presents yourself as non-threatening. A bag of cracked corn will entice them to come near.

Never understood the issue people have with geese. I've hand-fed them too, and the worse is an accidental finger-nip here and there which doesn't hurt.

Maybe the geese understand that if they bite me, I'll bite back... :D

They seem pretty at ease around humans. Of course nesting instincts would make them aggressive!!

They are that bold, and still do not like you. I've done it too. Seagulls keep their distance, but the geese will take food from your hand.

The issue? They are aggressive, and poop by the ton.

I used to do that with some Muscovey Ducks at one college campus. They'd walk up, make an odd noise and I'd give them part of my sandwich -student union/cafeteria was by a creek flowing thru the campus. Most students avoided these odd ducks that look like the offspring of a turkey and a goose. Suckers could be mean and did have a nasty bite - fish eating ducks. For some reason they liked me.

I got those fuckers constantly in the field across the street and next to me. I fall when they gather to scour the fields of harvested corn, they circle my place in mass and shit all over my car and the place. Plus their endless honking. I've gone out with my shotgun and #8 shot and blasted the field to make it rain stinging but nonlethal shot on them to drive them off.

I think that you might have a surprise ... not sure but what you're seeing is a couple and maybe the female has layed some eggs ... she might be there for a while because they look like they're protecting their nest ... héhé you gonna have li'l chicks running around soon

The fucking geese are the giant aerial rats. Southeast Michigan has a plague of the damn things. And they are protected. I fail to see how something that plentiful can be endangered.

Well, they have moved from endangered to nuisance. Ask any Greens Keeper, park maintenance person, or homeowner with a big lawn and nearby water.

Yes their is a hunting season, but that does nothing about urban birds who cannot be hunted for perfectly good reasons. You have a population that is no longer migratory. They stay all winter and are getting food some someplace. Can I shiv the ones that are here in January?

Oh there are some at the local lakes I'd love to nail with a bow or high power pellet gun - damn things look tasty - bit greasy too. Used to Duck Hunt in Texas in the Late 80s and early 90s. Did bag a snow goose - was different to eat.

You don't live with hundreds to thousands of the pooping, aggressive bastards. And I AM a city kid. I said urban population. I can show you as many as you want driving down Greenfield towards Ford road. They hang out in the field.

The wildlife has moved back in to the inner city. Having been pushed out of the rural areas they wander the mean streets. Meaner because they are there. Don't leave your pets or children out, the coyotes will get them. I am not exaggerating.
