Raptor Line Variant
Type: Fire > Fire >> Fire/Flying
Ability: Speed Boost / Flash Fire - Drought (HA)
Overall Compatibility? Yellow
Charmander: "A recently revived ancient variant, these creatures are under strict observation by officials and even have a "catch season" in order to control how many can obtain one. This Charmander is fast and athletic, able to run for miles at a time at speeds of 30 mph. When they are excited, their tail feathers, which are not actual flames, will burn bright and beautifully."
Charmeleon: "While their younger siblings frolic and play, they tend to stand on fallen trees or dirt mounds, scouting for predators and prey alike. If a threat is detected, they will shoot torrents of flames into the air as they screech and sound the alarm. They aim for pristine feathers, and take frequent dust baths and preen one another to establish dominance and familial bonding."
Charizard: "Surprisingly affectionate and curious, this variant is beautifully colored and those same colors are to draw the attention and desire of females, all while having amazing speed, capable of running up to 60mph chasing down prey. They communicate to one another with over three dozen different vocal noises, from growls and chirps, all the way to high piercing shrills and screeches."
Nearly lost to the sands of time, this once extinct variant of the Charmander line is unique and completely mystifies scientists to this day. The first reported fossil discovered of this line was found only a few decades ago, soon after they had successfully started resurrecting fossil Pokemon such as Omanyte, Aerodactyl, Kabuto, etc. The folks who found it assumed it was an Aerodactyl that had feathers instead of scales. But the second it was successfully revived, they found out it looked awfully similar to a Common Charmander. DNA testing of the specimen proved true to such theory, and left many speechless at this new revelation.
The Raptor line is considered the fastest variant of the collection discovered, as well as the most… intriguingly different. While they are a part of the Charmander species, they are feathered and scaled simultaneously. Not only that, but the first recorded Raptor Chamander to evolve into its final form as a Charizard had its wings on its backside, not from its arm limbs like an Aerodactyl.
This variant is very hyperactive, highly curious, and extremely prone to nipping and giving love bites. They love to chase things around and aren’t the kind who turns down a challenge. Unlike the Archen line for example - which are well known for being cowardly and all facade with their aggressive charging - the Raptor line is very confident and not afraid of taking on creatures several times its size and trying to defeat them. Their long legs and tails help it run and jump just as fluidly as a Common/Wild line Charmeleon, and only becomes faster with each evolution. Another interesting trait about this Charmander variant is that it is the only feathered morph of the known collection. They are able to set their feathers aflame in order to appear more dangerous to predators, and when they become Charizard, their feathers are more extravagant than their baby forms. Males have bigger and more abundance of feathers than females, but females have sleeker, smaller forms than males, able to blend in easier into tall and dry grassy plains and squeeze into small openings in caves.
Now that the Raptor line has been revived, properly bred, quarantined and reintroduced into the wild, it is found to live best at the foot of mountainsides and dry grasslands, rather than flourishing up high in the craggy caves. They tend to dig holes in caves, or large dens in the ground. Interestingly enough, they can and will create small openings that are several feet up off the ground, to reduce the chance of predators getting to them or their eggs. As Charizard, many have started to breed them to be used in racing, given how much faster and nimble they are after they became available to the public.
Because of how diversely unique they are compared to the rest of the collection, many have wondered why this specific kind of Charmander line came to be. For there are very little to no other sightings of them anywhere else in the world. Only five other fossils like the original have been found, two other males and the last three revived to be females, and all of them were sighted deep within the rocky grounds of Mt. Silver. When this rare variant was broken through to the news, everyone wanted to learn more about it, and get their hands on it. Especially poachers who were given a lot of money from underground groups to snatch them up. Thankfully they weren’t, but there is an extremely strict set of laws that had to be put into place in order to protect this variant from going back into extinction.
There is actually a “capture season” that had to be set in place for them in the wild, which starts for the first two weeks in September. That’s it. And during the entirety of it, Rangers and Tamers from all around the world come to observe and police those who are trying to get their hands on a wild Raptor line. But once a dozen or so breeders were allowed to obtain some, they began to reproduce this variant for public purchase. They, however, are extremely expensive, given how exotic they are, and most breeders seek the proper handling for each individual Raptor Charmander.
While most Charizard of the other variants breed up to 4 eggs per clutch, the Raptor line can lay anywhere from 2 to 8 per clutch. However, given how in the wild they still have to struggle with predators, mortality rates can still be fairly high for the young if their parents are not alert enough.
The fastest recorded speed of this line as a Charizard was 56 mph, nearly twice the speed that of a Common line Charmeleon. And the highest a Raptor Charizard was able to jump in a single leap was 15 ft. This is a heavily omnivorous variant of the species, one that aims more towards berries and grub, as they are a migratory species that travels over the mountainsides and plains more than staying in one location permanently. Males are a bit taller than females, but both are known for being affectionate creatures that only grow enraged when their young or trainers are injured. This variant is one of the smaller ones too, with males only getting to around 6 ft tall and females barely 5'5" ft. Yet, despite that, they are still able to fly with a considerable amount of weight on their backsides if need be.
When I dive into research, I REALLY dive into research, and will come back up to the surface with questions like this: what would a variant look like if the Charizard was feathered like actual IRL raptors were theorized and proved to have been millions of years ago? Sprinkle in some fanart done of such a thing, as well as a genuine love for dinosaurs?

An interresting take on a plausible fossil version. A shame that they're so rare cause I'd definitely want to get my hands on one, even if just to pet such fluffy feathered boi.
Do they actually fly with such underdeveloped wings ? maybe they glided instead ?
I'm still clapping by the way.

Well I wouldn't call them "underdeveloped wings" and yeah they most definitely can fly but they also can glide too!
If Dragonite can go flapping around with its tiny tiny wings, then I'm pretty sure these guys are more than capable at flying with wings that are pretty decent to their body size ratio :)
