Character: Growler.
Species: Weregrinch.
Info: Nathan's monstersona, Growler is a weregrinch styled after the Jim Carrey version but with a bit of a more muscular physique and fangs as opposed to the teeth Carrey's version of the character has, he is basically what you would describe as a green Deadpool in terms of his deadpan personality and his tendency to break the fourth wall. He is aware he is a fictional character and he is aware that the concept of a monster based on a Seuss character is a dumb one and he makes references to this a lot. Originally he started out as a 'Heel', being a villain who hated humans, but only the humans that made fun of him for being different. He eventually became an anti-hero and then a full fledged hero later on, learning that there is good and bad in everyone, he presents himself as being a tough and badass type especially when he is fighting enemy monsters, pretty much acting as a Grinch version of Corey Feldman as Edgar Frog. He is a softy though and cares for his family and friends and even fellow monsters, he is also an essential part of the Hillhurst Monster group, as he helps out with the other house-monsters and also helps Flabber the phasm. He has heightened senses and super-strength. Aspects of Growler's personality and powers are similar to Tommy Dawkins from the show Big Wolf On Campus, and he even is a skilled fighter. He is a patient man most of the time but if you cross him or his friends or even attempt to hurt him, he will 'grinch out', unleash his fury on you and kick your ass. He can't stand seeing werecreatures be relegated to essentially being mindless assimilator types since he feels werecreatures like himself are tragic creatures and that people who portray them as mindless killers or types that only exist to infect/assimilate others are simply racially profiling them or stereotyping them, he also can't stand monsters who solely only exist for world domination as he finds it to be cliched/overrated.
Influences:
- Deadpool (Marvel). He is very much a green, furred up Deadpool in terms of his fourth-wall breaking, self-awareness of being a character in a story and his overall sense of humor which is a mix of self deppreciation and edgy insult comedy.
- Ford Fairlane (Adventures Of Ford Fairlane). 'Lovey-dovey' has never been his style, he is basically a 'bad-boy' character through and through...yes he can be nice sometimes but he knows the world isn't full of happiness, he is very much a master insult comic and rebel who isn't afraid to say what is on his mind, he takes after Ford Fairlane in that sense and after Andrew Dice Clay's alter-ego in general, besides he doesn't allow anyone to try and change him, he doesn't wish to change for anyone. He began as a 'Heel' i.e a villain but then became an anti-hero and the anti-hero of his own story.
- Crow T Robot (MST3K). He is a lot like Crow personality-wise with his wisecracks and jokes.
- Ace Ventura (Ace Ventura: Pet Detective). He's a combination of two Jim Carrey characters...the Grinch and Ace Ventura and he acts a lot like Ace at times, especially when when in sleuth mode.
- Tommy Dawkins (Big Wolf On Campus). His powers work in a similar way to Tommy's...when Nathan gets upset or hurt in anyway, he will 'Grinch' out which is like when Tommy wolfs out complete with glowing yellow eyes, and he also acts like Tommy in the sense that he often narrates the events of his own experiences like when Tommy narrates the opening of every episode of the shwo he's from. He even has a version of the 'What happened in the movie' gag.
- The Grinch (How The Grinch Stole Christmas). Grinches in the Monster World are styled after Carrey's Grinch except with a few minor differences, and he is basically Carrey's Grinch as a superhero.
- Logan/Wolverine (Marvel).
- Bojack (Bojack Horseman).
- Edgar Frog (The Lost Boys). His serious/badass persona is styled after Edgar's and he talks in a similar voice.
- Jack Burton (Big Trouble In Little China)
- George Constanza (Seinfeld). He is essentially a mix of George and Kramer especially considering his sex appeal...he is a weregrinch who is very sarcastic and surly at most times and looks like he's the much more appealing cousin of Mossman from Heman and the Masters Of The Universe but he still gets lots of attention from female fans who adore him and the ladies in general. He also tends to act and/or feel like George sometimes.
- Robin Williams.
- Axel Foley (Beverly Hills Cop).
- Harry Crumb (Who's Harry Crumb)
- Rafe Guttman (Bordello Of Blood). A lot of his jokes and quips are very much Dennis Miller-esque, especially since he makes a lot of references and quips at the expense of others.'
- Frank Drebin (Naked Gun series). Almost every comment he makes is very deadpan in tone.
- Irwin Fletcher (Fletch).
- Dale Cooper (Twin Peaks).
- Joe Friday (Dragnet).
