So, I'm going in to Avatar creation, and to start with, I'm creating some feathers and avian bits n bobs.. so here is a snapshot of a tail i just made..

You can do it, though. :3 what're you using to sculpt and to texture?

blender + primstar, and using gimp for drawing the textures. I totally suck at texturing though >.o the feather was easy thankfully.. noise, motion blur, and then a gradient along where the quill is.. :p but anything more detailed is tough.

I understand. I'm using Blender and Primstar and incorporating the baked lighting in with the textures, but it means not getting to re-use textures on multiple prim objects. It's really, really rough. I just made a corsage with like, 12 parts, and it took forever.

ahh yeah.. I tried that a bit, but found ti too slow.. and im a huge fan of reusable textures.. so i'm learning to use gimp. I really wish we could do islands for texturing, but it just doesnt seem to want to work out that way :p

the textures are grey/white, meaning i can recolor them any color. :p i'll also do some tinting on parts of textures to get multiple colors.. but the stock default color is grey for that purpose.
