a little sample of the final style/animation method I'm using for Exetype. This kind of spriting is very labour intensive, so for now I'll mostly just be working with sketches until the game engine is complete enough to start spending time polishing the resources.
I've rethought Ginnigan's design a little compared to earlier models. His design changed slightly from the sprite I posted earlier. I added more detail to his thrusters and brightened the colours some and adusted some other small stuff.
I've also put a bit more thought into his moveset. Initially I wanted him to have inertia-based projectiles, but since he's the main character he can't be too difficult to play...so I'll need to think about this.
Ginnigan is also a construction and industrial repair android (or at least he appears to be), so it wouldn't make sense for him to have weapons that aren't useful in that field. So instead of inertia based projectiles, I've decided to give him a simple percussion gun inbuilt into his arm - a tool used for precision work with rivets on bridges and structures, but of course it can be used to fend off attackers too.
I might release a sketch sheet detailing some of the moves I have planned for this character. Stay tuned, and sorry for the long delay inbetween submissions.

holy hell this is awesome o3o~
not to nitpick, or anything (Since I know from experience that spriting is a pain in the ass sometimes) but the lines between the highlights, the neutrals, and the shadows are really harsh and appear pixelated - they could stand to be anti-aliased a bit.
I love the smoothness of this though, goodness, and at that resolution, too.
what are you coding it for? the PC?

Yeah I understand the shading is a bit rough, but I honestly don't have the time and manpower to anti-alias it as much as I'd like. I have to cut back on double toning too.
And yeah, currently it's PC development, but we're planning on eventually going for console or arcade if it does well.

understandable :3 and actually, it looks better now that I've set my screen zoom to 100%. it was zoomed in a bit, and made some of the lines look smoother due to the odd anti-aliasing. (I'm on a mac, so accidentally touching the touchpad with two fingers can pinch zoom me)
honestly, good job on this! I'll be eagerly awaiting more!
if you need any sort of help with spriting, I could try to help, I know my way around pixel art.
