He is looking in the mirror over his shoulder and admiring how good he looks. Of course, he never looks right AT a mirror, that is stupid and vain and something only girls would do. He doesn't care about his looks one bit. (But of course he can never resist checking himself out in the reflection on a pond or in a window, if nobody is looking.) Here he is proud of how good he looks. He had had a shower and a good brush all over to groom the fur. This is for no reason at all of course, it is certainly not because he wants to look nice for someone.
