While some human countries are really concerned about enforcing certain religions or giving privileges only to certain races / castes, others are mainly concerned about efficiency and profit first and foremost. In the Republic of Tresti, no matter your race or faith, if you prove yourself to be a valuable asset, you will be rewarded for it. Such rewards range from citizenship, to the right to vote for your representation in the government, to obtaining property, or climbing the political ladder almost up to the top.
Of course it's far from an utopia, with historically wealthy families trying to keep most power in their hands, but still better than nothing.
Also I had no idea what to put as a title.

It's pretty much a country similar to Venice, but unlike Venice, that remained cut out from the trading routes after the dicovery of the Americas, Tresti managed to remain in the loop due to a favorable geographical position and could take part in early colonization attempts.
