Copying a panel from the August 16, 1962 Pogo. Mouse, while narrating a tale to himself, gets a comment from ... his tail? He's rather taken aback by it.
This is more ProCreate practice. This time I did everything copying the panel by eye, no tracing anything, which is why it's all on a roughly ten-degree incline from level. I was caught by the whimsy and strangeness of the situation, yes, but also by just how freaking good Walt Kelly made that log look. Mine isn't a patch on it, of course, because Walt Kelly channeled the Form of the Beautiful whenever he drew trees. But trust me, go to Pogo Volume 7: Pockets Full Of Pie and look at this strip and you will agree that is an exquisite log, one that deserves copying. I might do it again.
I'm really enjoying how ProCreate's brushes work; they harmonize well with what my brain thinks digital drawing should be like. I was having so much fun I copied the date and Kelly's syndicate credit just to have a bit more to do. ... Not enough fun to copy all of Mouse's story because, goodness but he does go on if you let him. Maybe I should, though. ProCreate is way easier to letter in than ArtRage is.
I did like three attempts to get Mouse's eyes looking right and that's the best of the lot.
