Spikey (JP: Garu [ ガル ]) was a strain of computer virus enemy featured in the following games in the main-line Battle Network series:
Battle Network 2
Battle Network 3 (both Blue and White)
Battle Network 4 (both Red Sun and Blue Moon)
...as well as the JP-exclusive "Rockman EXE 4.5: Real Operation".
It could also be found in the spinoff game "Megaman Network Transmission" on GameCube as a miniboss virus with a similar pattern to the "Friender" enemies from Mega Man 2 (NES) and made a cameo appearance as a BattleChip illustration for the HeatShot series of BattleChips in "Megaman BattleChip Challenge" (GBA).
They are all [Fire]-elemental viruses that teleport around their side of the field and occasionally attack with a fireball from their mouths that, upon contact with an object or the player, ignites that space and at least one other panel (range of attack depends on its version).
The following BattleChips are in every game that they are illustrated in:
HeatShot
Heat-V
And this one is in BN2, BCC and NT:
HeatCros
...which was replaced in later games as:
HeatSide
Additionally, with the help of the Virus Breeder in BN3, you can also summon the virus in the form of this BattleChip:
Spikey
There is also a Program Advance made by combining HeatShot, Heat-V and HeatSide in BN3 (or just 3 alphabetical-order codes of one of them in BN4) called "HeatSprd" which, as the name suggests, acts like a Spreader BattleChip but with a significant attack boost and [Fire] element property.
Version 1 (V1) usually is seen with anywhere from 60 to 90 HP, while the most powerful version of Spikey has consistently risen in HP since Network Transmission all the way up to EXE 4.5, going from 140 HP in Network Transmission (V3) to 200 HP in BN2, to 260 in BN3 (SpikeyΩ), all the way up to 330 HP (V3EX) in BN4 and EXE4.5.
