Well actually I believe it looks very appropriate. He's doing exactly what he is supposed to be doing, the scales represent justice only to those who do not know their purpose. As to whether to use Anubis or Osiris on the card-either would be appropriate. Depending on the time period, I believe Anubis was replaced by Osiris as the god of death(possibly after Osiris was killed by another one of the gods, if I recall correctly, he ended up taking that post.)
anubis is not the god of death or never was; he is the guardian to the underworld; If the person is just he guides them to a heaven of their choosing. If they were pure in heart even with the feather they became a god, and if they were evil, they were devoured by ammut, the critter below anubis. The feather belongs to (I forget her name) who sits upon the post and watches over the judging to make sure it is accurate. True the gods changed over time in what they did. In earlier myth, anubis was believed to have been sekhmets husband, later to become bastet, or in some cases combined with the two; lioned headed in war or cat in domestic settings. when scholars noticed anubis and sekhmet seemed to have come from the same mother, they were no longer seen as husband and wife. Osiris was the over lord as I recall but was killed by Set, the god of destruction. when his body was pieced together he became lord of the underworld. I don't know all the little tidbits, but accurately, osiris would be more fitting as death as he is the lord and anubis is nothing more than the gatekeeper. so this card does reek of judgment, which I left the bottom blank, so I can still make it judgment.
UGH. well I know set would be the tower, I may have to find some mythology to fit that though...... >.<;;;; it's soooooo convuluded when you get into what era we are talking about. It is generally accepted that anubis is the GOD of death which isn't true. which is the mistake I made here. Osiris would be fitting as the death card as his history makes the sybmbolism of the card accurate. death is change, whether it be brought on by good or bad. techincally speaking death represents a new beginning and the death of the old and stagnant to make way for the new. since osiris died and was reincarnated and earning a new godhood it would be better...
sorry for the essay length reply >D
