She finally made an album it's only available on cassette. 60 minutes of 80s inspired synthpop on high quality Chrome or Metal tapes.
I kinda feel like this might be the first time I've actually drawn her smiling like that. I've also given her a few minor restyles.
(In case of confusion there's no real cassette albums for sale this is just a drawing)

As I sit here and look at literally piles of CDs. I've never owned an 8-Track, but I bought an accessory cassette deck for my car back in 1978. I had to wire up a manual switch to select the source for the speakers. I did buy commercial tapes early on, but quality was iffy. I switched to using LPs for source and 'ripped' my own tapes. First on oxide, then on CrO2; when I got a car that would play metal tape I switched again. I got my first car with a CD player in the late '80s and never looked back.
I've currently got a couple of 8 track tapes in the closet but no player.
I know one time a dozen or so years ago my dad had an old car (or probably a truck) that had an 8-track player in it and I remember listening to some on it being all mystified by how you could switch Programs at any given time and how it didn't seem to have any tape reels inside (I know now it has that goofy single spool system inside)

The only place I've seen new Cassettes being released is from some artists on Bandcamp, I guess they don't have the same level of 'retro nostalgia' as vinyl even though I think they're a lot less hassle. Maybe someday there will be a resurgence who knows. Part of me wants a VHS resurgence but I really really doubt that will happen (too bad D-VHS wasn't more popular at least those were in 1080i then people wouldn't complain about picture quality).
I guess it all depends on how many times they're played and the quality of the tape deck. I've got a lot of tapes from the 80s that are doing fine but I also don't know the 'mileage' of them. CDs can go bad over time by themselves, I've had a number of DVDs (I know we're talking about CDs but close enough) suffer from 'disc rot' where the shiny metal coating corrodes and becomes unreadable. Most of these discs however were from the same company making me think they were just poorly made.
Depending on what genre you listen to Cassettes seem to be making a comeback although new tape players aren't... I'd like to find a decent portable tape player for a reasonable price but the Scalpers on eBay make sure that wont happen (so I have to use my ''custom'' boombox made of an old 2001 Nissan radio and some other parts, it weighs a ton but sounds amazing)
