You know, on the old ones, that hair style always reminds me of Ash's mother from pokemon.

I mentioned it to someone once and they said that its taught as an example in a fairly popular 80s/90s japanese comic tutorial and is often the first and sometimes only hairstyle some anime and manga artists ever learn, which is why it ended up everywhere.

It's still fairly used I find! I still do similar hairstyles in my art, depends on the character.

I once read a comic where the only way to tell the difference between the characters was the clothing. there were no expressions or anthing. just the same head and hairdo produsing nearly identical speeches about their own power. I think the one with the high collar and slightly pointier eyes was the villain. some names were mentioned at some point, but none were ever repeated, so...

It's actually kinda neat how things appear cleaner over the years. If you really wanted to look it at this way, the image could be healing over the years and becoming more whole.
