Death Lullaby
...and also dragons.
Seeing an art prompt on a Discord server I was on, I was compelled to draw something medieval fantasy themed; inspired by playing as King Sancho of Castile in CK2 and Spain in Medieval 2, I wanted to draw medieval Spanish soldiers, accompanied by some dragons. I scoured for depictions of 12th century/13th century Western European soldiers and whatnot to get a general feel and also wanted to include Catholic priest, accompanying the soldiers to heal, pray, and convert some Moors with the power of Holy Wololo. There's also a Jinete, light cavalrysars trained to fight in the rough Iberian terrain against their Moorish counterparts, riding a Pachystruthio ostrich and ready to ride out and meet his foes. The archer I directly based off the peasant archer unit from Medieval 2 and below him is supposed to be a war drake, based off RL Spanish war dogs, and whose design I took from both a Castilian heraldic dragon design and from a sketch of a dragon head I found off Google Images. Above them fly three dragons, bred to combat those fielded by the Moorish Emirates and Sultanates, hailing from breeds of mixed indigenous Iberian, Celtic, Gothic, and North African stock. The background I just based off of the Castilian plains map from Medieval II, with the grey overcast sky and peak of setting sunlight over the horizon.
Boy howdy, this took a while to finish; not just because it's rather complex but I also kept stopping, distracted by playing games (like emulating TimeSplitters and Nightfire on Dolphin), watching silly game meme videos, and combating bad allergies/sinus infection at the last minute.
