Kurierwagen 02

A VW Type 181, also known as Kurierwagen. This vehicle was produced from 1968 to 1980 as a military of road vehicle for the Bundeswehr, the westgerman army. Many people cunfuse it with the much older WW2 Kübelwagen, which was a similar jeep type vehicle also produced by VW.

Is the aerial and its mount standard or an after market addon?

I think the aerial was standart.

I think the mount for that is from its time as a command car back in the war. May have been repurposed for commercial radio when it was sold to the public, but I think those were barebones to the point of not having one. That may be a super-clean original model or a replica.

Which war?
This is a Kurierwagen, not a Kübelwagen. This type of vehicle was build between 1968 and 1980, over 20 years after the war, for the Bundeswehr. This one was a military vehicle for the west german army, I wrote that in the description.

I owned one of the first ones that were imported to the US. I believe they were amde in the VW factory in Mexico. Great car and one of those I wish I had kept.

It was fun anywhere. It was perfectly happy on muddy dirt roads in the woods or on the freeways. Dont think I had the top us very often. If it got rained on, there were drain plugs on the floor and it would drain right out.

A neighbor had one of these when I was in high school. I was thinking of buying it from him but was a bit short on funds. People used to call it the 'Volkswagen thing'. Personally, I liked the Schwimmwagen best.
