"Death is but a thin boundary in this world, fools. Slaying a body means nothing if you let the spirit free. Come, I will reap your souls! They'll make a perfect conduit for my spells!" -Shulara, standing off against Jardakk and Grala.
It is already nearly-impossible to truly slay any individual of the Direwind, given their innate ability to be reincarnate by the foul magic that is necromancy. However, should a particular body be damaged too far an extent to effectively restore, the spiritualists of the clan remedy that problem quite well, for bodies are but vessels for consciousness and unlife to inhabit. By storing the souls of their wicked kin, Shulara is able to weave an individual spirit (or group of spirits) into brand new, less-damaged bodies, returning their consciousness to physical, albeit different, bodily forms. In addition to her ability to forever revive any members of her clan, Shulara can also absorb and reap the very essence of her foes with the swing of her dreadful scythe or the beck of her soul-draining spells, storing them for later within a small crystal phylactery around her neck. Shulara's past is largely unknown, but no outsider dares look into her past, considering anybody unlucky enough to wind up in Shulara's 'care' won't be alive much longer, their souls sucked dry and grounded into nothingness as Shulara performs her horrible spells. To truly kill a Direwind, one must banish their soul in holy light...but very few of the non-corrupted gnoll clans have any clerics or paladins in which to do so, allowing Shulara to revive her kin faster than they can fall. Dark times loom over Norrath, the shadow of plague soon to swallow the land.
Spiritual magic! An interesting idea earlier. Asked myself how I could make the Direwind even more terrifying, and this is what I came up with. Leave a fav and a watch if you liked, and stay tuned!
