Binaural audio dates back to the early 70s. It's nothing but one tone in one ear and another tone between 10 and 4 hz difference in the other ear. The human brain is wired to expect and comprehend beat frequencies because in the natural world, two different tones produce such a beat. There is no naturally occurring way to have seperate frequencies in the left and right ear.
