‘Hmm,… you don’t say,…’
“A kind tourist once told me a tale from a far off place called ‘Scott’s Land’, where in ancient times people would look out across the marshlands,… called ‘The Moors’,… and at night they could see lights. They thought these lights were the vengeful spirits of those who had died in the Moors, and that they were trying to lure others to the same fate. They called them the ‘Will of the Wisp’, or ‘Will’o’Wisps’,… I think I said that right,… hmm,… yeah,… in truth the lights were just pockets of swamp gas that ignited, but on Nightshade Island the Wisps are very real.
Though not spirits of the dead, they are mischievous spirits of light and wind,… who used to delight in leading Tourists and would-be Thieves into various jungle dangers, at least until I came to the island,…[i]
[i]They tried those tricks with me, but I didn’t fall for them, and when I managed to catch one of them it turned out I could understand it,… which seemed to surprise it as much as it did me,… maybe it has something to do with the blessings the Primal Forces gave me,… but whatever the reason I could understand the musical language they talk in,… like the chiming of delicate bells,… and they could understand me.
As we talked more and more of them gathered around and we had quite the conversation, after which they decided that I was their friend, and that they were going to turn over a new leaf and be good and helpful, rather than bad, and they have been very good and helpful friends ever since then.
They light my way in dark portions of the jungle,… they let me know when the Villains and Thieves are up to no good, or there is trouble on the island,… they’ve led me to many secret and safe places on the island, like these hot springs grottos, they even gave me the crystal bands I wear in my arms, that they found out in the jungle, as a gift of friendship, which was very kind of them. They also seem to tend to the safe places,… the ‘sanctuaries’ on the island, like the hot springs,… keeping them clean, and hidden,… and they’ve even started tending the tree house I found as well,.. though that is another story,… I’m not sure how, they must have some kind of magic.
They still get to have fun and be mischievous though, but now instead of leading people into dangers they lead them in circles along safe paths that end up right back on the shoreline they started from, much to the confusion of those involved,… heh,.. the Wisps really get a kick out of that, they think it’s hilarious,…
On an island like this, with the job I have, I more than welcome any friends and any help I can get, and the Jungle Wisps have really shown themselves to be great and true friends, that I am most grateful for.”
‘Heh,… You just never get tired of that, do you?’

After all those villains I figured it was about time to show some more of Ember’s friends on the island, and
shonuff44 really brings to life beautifully this little twist of mine on old folklore in the Jungle Wisps.
When I first saw this picture I was completely blown away,… it is simply beautiful,… moments of peace like this are not doubt rare on Ember’s island, but this piece really captures that calm, serenity so well. Ember looks so pretty, and relaxed, chatting with her friends, or more likely just listening as they chat, and the Wisps look really nice, they have such an ethereal quality to them, as they just seem to hang lazily in the air all around her. But, it goes without saying that the lighting effects in this picture are just marvelous,… not only in the Wisps themselves, but the whole area,… from the hazy steam coming off the hot springs, to the shine off of Ember’s skin, hair, spear and attire, to the slightly see-through quality of the crystal band on her arm. The night time setting was a great choice for this picture to really show all of that off best, and how is all seems to culminate, under the moonlight, to create almost an aura around Ember amidst the dark jungle behind them. All just simply gorgeous.
Thank you for this truly astounding picture, ShoNuff44. :D

He opens his regular commissions twice a year, typically January and July, and he posts announcements for it usually a week ahead of time. When the time rolls around you just have to have your request ready and send it in fast, cause the slots go fast.
Alternatively, he does black & white commission streams 3 days a week;
https://picarto.tv/shonuff44
Sunday, SFW stream, 2pm est
Tuesday, Chibi stream, 6pm est

Yeah, I figured that would be a nice spin on the idea for the Wisps, and show the effect Ember can have upon things like that. :) And yeah, like I said, with all the villains and dangers on the island it only seemed right to give Ember some more friends to help out. :) Thanks, yeah, Sho really did great with this, it looks incredible. :)
Lovely pic of Ember right here! I love how she looks in this. The scenery around her is done extremely well, a nice quiet night with some fog for a nice mood. The wisps themselves all look really nice, there's a nice shine from them, and it's lovely to see all the different colours from them. Ember as well looks great! Fun to see her sitting above a lake on a branch, kind of like the Hula Girl pic with the forest spirit. Ember herself looks as amazing as always, her body positon gives off a nice calm feeling, and it's great to see her hair flowing behind her. Her expression is pretty great, giving off the impression that she's listening to what the Wisp is talking about. Really nice. :)
Very nice story as well, nice touch of Ember actually hearing about the stories from Scotland, and what they where actually, all while she has some real ones on her island. Quite the interesting origin for them as well, having them be tricksters before meeting Ember, and turning over a new leaf, though I'm unsure if they all actually ended up doing that, and having Ember be able to understand them because of the blessings from the primal forces defiantly makes plenty of sense. They seem really useful, with lighting up paths and alerting Ember about trouble, not to mention it's a pretty good explanation for where the rings on her arms came from and why she wears them. Also great to have them keep some places nice and clean, as well as that they've started to do that with Ember's treehouse now, defiantly makes Ember's life easier, which she really needs. Plus, having secret places like that hot spring grotto is defiantly useful for when Ember needs a break from everything.
The Wisps are defiantly nice allies for Ember to have, and it's great to see them here! :)

I'm glad you like it, and yeah, I love how she looks here too. The background and environment are very well done, and seem very quiet and calm, with the fog providing a nice accent. The Wisps turned out really nice, and such a lovely glow coming off of them, and the different colors really are nice. Yeah, Ember looks beautiful, and yeah, her sitting on the branch above the hot springs like this is very much like that picture with Hula Girl, which served as inspiration for this idea. She does indeed, and she certainly does have a very calm and relaxed position, and her hair flowing down behind her is a nice touch to see. Yeah, her expression really does give the impression she is listening to the Wisp as it talks. I'm glad you like it. :)
Thank you very much, I'm glad you like the story, and I thought that was fitting, since the Wisps are based on those old folk tales, but on Nightshade are actually real. I thought that might be a nice touch, and could show the effect that Ember can have on those around her, and yeah, the idea was that they all turned good, and I thought her being able to understand them, as part of her being Island Guardian, would not only be a nice touch, but a good reason as to why they would befriend her and turn good. Yes, they can be very helpful to her, especially by alerting her to trouble, and I thought that would be a good explanation for the bands. Yeah, they are definitely very helpful friends, and their tending to safe places and her tree house would certainly make her life easier. Yeah, no doubt there are hidden, safe, places on the island that would be hard for most to find, but that the Wisps would know about and share with her.
I'm glad you like them, and yeah, it is really great to see them. :)
