$10 Sketch Commission by
valentinecrow Posted with permission.
Some things never change. Even when she was a little girl, Niamh could be counted on to have her head in the clouds, lost in her dreams.
valentinecrow is currently offering cute little sketches of people's characters as children, and I couldn't resist grabbing one. This sketch shows my bunny girl at the grand old age of 10, dreaming the day away in a field of flowers. Also, for those who remember Oseille, this is how old Niamh was when she first met Ciara, so this could be kind of seen as an unofficial companion piece to my earlier commission of Ciara as a child, just before they both had their lives changed forever.
The title is mine, by the way. VC, I hope you don't mind. I'm immensely pleased with this, and I couldn't have asked for a cuter picture of Niamh!

Doesn't she?
valentinecrow did an amazing job with this! And, call me biased, but there's nothing cuter than a rabbit kitten.
Thanks!

albinokitsune
'nother fennec girl, but she's a kitsune and a bit thicker build, nothing wrong there though

Aw, thanks. Yeah, I was incredibly pleased with how calm and peaceful
valentinecrow made her look. She really captured what I had in mind very well.

Oh my, I certainly have to agree with everything you said here, and in your journal! This is indeed an amazingly beautiful and wonderfully tranquil piece of art! Darling little Niamh... she looks so serene!
*smiles*
Indeed, having read and knowing all the events rolling by in your story Oseille gives this piece even that much more meaning... you just can't help seeing how happy she is here, and still so blissfully unaware of everything that will befall her over the course of a couple of years later in her life. Ahh... if only the days like these shown here would never end...

She really does. This is really what I think of as her default state of being. Just kind of calm, and dreamy, and happy to sit in a nice, sunny field full of flowers. But don't worry. For all the unpleasantness in Oseille, and for all the things that were changed in her life, she's still this little girl, deep in her heart.
But it would be nice, wouldn't it, to think there was some way of capturing a moment like this, and preserving it just so. Maybe that's the most valuable thing about art there is.
Thanks, hon. You know I'm always glad to hear what you have to say!

*smiles and nods*
Yes, I can certainly see what you mean. This just shows the essence of Niamh; what she is deep inside. Even if the events that happened later in her life may have given her scars, and may have taught her to mask her emotions and everything, it is so nice to know that there is still this lovely, dreamy, serene girl inside her.
*chortles*
I wish there was a way for her to return to those wonderful days where she could let that side of her show so freely, so without cares and worries, without any obligations and totally free to just enjoy her surroundings and the feeling of the gentle breeze around her muzzle and between her ears And I wish there was a way for us to do that as well... but ah well, fortunately there is still the option of daydreaming

It really is. You just have to know how to look for it. I don't think that I'd ever want to actually go back to being a child. That would mean giving up too much. But I do treasure the ability to reach back, and hold on to some fragment of that time, when the world was a magical place, and I had my hopes and my dreams, and no sense of worry or disillusionment. And that's why I enjoy commissioning pictures like this one, to send Niamh back to her own childhood, for a moment. It's a reminder to myself to reach back for that child I was.
*Grins* Yeah, Niamh was quite the cute little thing, when she was a girl. And I agree, her expression really is just kind of perfect for this scene. It's daydreamy, and hopeful, and it really does a lot to capture what I think of as Niamh's basic personality. You're right, too, that the sketch itself is really well done. VC put a lot of work into this, and I was quite blown away when I saw it. Thanks!
