Well I delayed long enough, had to finish this. This had a new set of issues to deal with. This is my character, Halina, cosplaying as the Lennus heroine Midia. Shots of Midia from the game Lennus 1 are included as reference, since probably no one's heard of this game.
At least the sprite and the portrait match for this one. However that outfit is just weird! I tried a couple tests in coloring this with marker and had no success... the colors I had were just too vivid and it didn't look right. I didn't feel like buying all new markers just for this, so I went with colored pencil.
It's been a while since I colored with just colored pencil. My technique needs some refinement... please tell me any suggestions.

Nice interpretation, especially since the sprites really didn't give you a whole ton to work with as far as outfit details. :)
One thing that might be worth trying with the colored pencil is to introduce a little more randomness in the strokes for the fur shading, and even one or two slightly different shades if you have them. You did a good job with keeping all of the strokes moving in the same direction as the object they're coloring (and pulled off the subtle shading on the fabric well, I think), but the fur looks kind of flat because of how perfectly the strokes follow the body. On the arms, for example, the inking hints at the fur not lying completely flat at the edges, so maybe try adding some extra strokes (either with the same color or a few accent/shading strokes with a slightly darker gray) that start angling out slightly to give the arm a more rounded, 3d look.
However, I can't remember the last time I used colored pencils for shading or coloring, so take this suggestion for what it's worth. :P Cool sketch! :)

Most welcome on the feedback and such, I just hope that it helps. :) I hear you on the non-digital colorings--it's sad how little I work with physical media anymore. Ha, for that matter, it's sad how little drawing I do anymore...definitely need to work on that. :P
