On that meeting, we got about 15 people to join up, and we got a little more about it. One of the older people who joined told us about some strangers he saw around town; the bobcat said he was here all his life and was part of all the big events, new everyone in town. There's been about four people driving around in a green trucks, always carrying something too.
We got the description, then Korina and I ended the meeting then spent the next day looking for this truck. The description helped us to narrow it out, but the people around it didn't look like criminals, not even to Korina. They just looked like a couple of boys that were hanging out, all predators. We needed a way to be sure they were gangsters rather than just tourists.
"They might know me." I said, "I'm not walking over there to it."
"I mean, I could, but it'd be weird." Korina said, "Some girl just walks up and strikes up a conversation out of no where?." She had a point and looked around, "I need a good reason to to be over by them."
I looked around and then saw a Belgium stallion from the meeting, one of the neighborhood watch recruits from last night. He was wearing light and casual clothes, and wearing shades as he carried some bags on his back. "Maybe he could help us. Cause something over by them." But then I saw he was walking with his foal. My ears went to a down at the disappointment, but Korina smiled, "This will be perfect." And she walked over to them. I had no idea what she was planning, so I followed her lead.
"Hi there, Tony, I need your help with something." Korina said, "Any chance you could lend us a hand?"
"Look, I can't get into anything serious right now." Tony said, "Not with my son here."
"We're going to win the big game." his son said, tossing a baseball in his hands, "I've been practicing this whole week."
"It's nothing like what you think." Korina said, "In fact, you won't even have to much of anything."
"What are you planning?" I asked her
"Could I borrow that ball?" Korina asked the young boy, holding out a hand; the foal just gave it to them. "Now the rest of you just look to him, like you're scolding him."
"What?"
"What did I do?"
"What are you planning."
It was clear we were all confused, but then Korina throw the baseball right at the green truck. She turned away and reposed herself right before the impact. The guys by the truck looked to what happened then looked our way, and Korina gave this expression of shock and horror, she looked over to the kid then ran over to the group.
It was then, I caught on to what she had planned. I turned to Tony, quickly, "Act like your scolding him."
"I didn't do anything though, it was her." the boy said,
"I know that," I said to him, "you're not in trouble we're just pretending."
The poor kid started whimper, and Tony had to calm him down and explain. We were far enough away, however, they probably didn't know what we were saying. Looking back to them, however, they didn't seem to even care. Korina was talking with them, apologizing for "what the kid did," and she was right up by the truck. She could look inside it and just act like a local with a wild child for a nephew or son. I watched her a little longer, then went back to my role talking it with Tony's son and calming him down.
When she came back, the truck drove off. She handed the baseball back to Tony's son, "Thanks kid, I'll get you Charleston for that."
"See, you're not in any trouble." Tony said, then looked back to her, "What was that about?"
"I'll explain it at a later time." Korina smiled, "Just know you helped us out a bit..." She wished he and his son good luck at the game, then walked away with me, "They were smuggling guns in." she told me. "Probably planning to fortify their hold here or take someone out."
"You and I gonna hijack them?" I asked "Just gotta move fast and hard."
"Hiding is not gonna be a good call for our group." Korina said, "We want them knowing they set up shop in a bad place. We'll find where they stash this stuff, and clean them out."
"Okay, I got your back there." I said, "Think the two of us will do it."
"Oh, we can DO it, but we gotta accomplish more than that." Korina said, "Well need a third man, either a sharpshooter, or someone with muscle." I started to notice her tone and manner while talking about this. I knew where she came from, but it seemed like some old habits from that past were coming back. She knew what she was doing better than me, it was kind of freaky, but it made her good for running the neighborhood watch.
