Though the official borders of Frontier Space are abstract at best, a lengthy gash, void of stars, separates the frontier for its galactic northern neighbor, The Kingdom of Valbane. Containing the homeworld of dragons, Valbane has a reputation among the greater galactic community for its brutal imperialism, byzantine monarchy, and intense xenophobia. Historically, the kingdoms borders stretched well into the then-unclaimed frontier reaches before centuries of conflict and infighting reduced the monarchy to an isolationist cluster of systems. Indeed, the empire is a shadow of its former self as civil unrest and revolution has caused many of its oppressed lower class citizens to seek asylum in the newly formed frontier.

Even among the independent colonies, war refugees suffered extreme discriminations, blamed by many who remembered the kingdom's genocidal campaigns across the galaxy. Though time and effort saw dragons becoming more accepted in the frontier, the need for protection and a strong sense of cultural identity gave birth to the protection syndicate, La Glossata, who took the extremophile Ash Moth from their surrogate home of Amos II as a symbol of their endurance.

As for the kingdom itself, a recent, violent coup against the Crown Emperor and the death or disappearance of most of his heirs has left the kingdom's fate uncertain as record numbers of refugees flood into colonial space once more and a precarious power vacuum begins to pull in the surviving players.
