Chapter 77: The Four Elements
“Where did you get that?” Jake asked as Max and Jacob returned to the others with the book they found. “One of the librarians handed it to us.” Jessica replied as she placed the book in front of them. “Everything we need to know about Tantu is in here.”
“This is perfect!” Mikey added. “We can learn so much about him!” As they looked at the book, they hesitated a bit. “Are you sure we should be doing this?” David asked. “There’s nothing to worry about.” Max replied. “This could help us if the Devourer attacks us again.”
Suddenly, a low humming noise came from the book and to the friends’ shock, the title of the book began to emit a glowing light. “What’s happening?!” David whispered. Slowly, the book opened by itself and on the front page, words began to appear before them.
‘Which one of you is the Wild Guardian?’ The words spoke. The friends blinked. “Are you guys... seeing this?” Jessica asked slowly. “I think so...” Max replied. Once again, the words appeared again. “Which one of you is the Wild Guardian?”
“I think it’s talking about you.” Mikey whispered to Max who nodded dumbly. He placed his hand on the page. “I’m Max, the new Wild Guardian.” He whispered, feeling a bit stupid talking to a book.
New words appeared. “So it seems that way...” They said. “Greeting, Wild Guardian. What is it do you seek?” “My friends and I wish to know about the Elements of Nature.” He replied. “Can you help us?”
Suddenly, the book began to flip its pages and stopped at pictures of four strange individuals. Each of them seemed to look human but they seemed to be made out of different elements. The first was a tall, muscular man with red skin and flaming red hair, the second was a beautiful maiden, dressed in a white silken robe with aquamarine hair, the third looked like a strange blob with a face made out of clouds and the last was a young girl wearing a dress made out of leaves with hair that looked like red leaves.
“Fire, Water, Earth and Air.” The words appeared. “These are the children of Mother Nature and the most powerful spirts of Earth.” “They maintain the balance between the elements and help their mother to watch over the natural world.” They continued. “They were Tantu’s closest friends and they helped him in their fight against the Devourer.”
“However, after Tantu and the Great Beasts sacrificed themselves to defeat him,” the words explained. “the Elements mysteriously disappeared, and no one knows what happened to them.” “Some say they faded away out of existence while others believe they returned back to the spirit plane to watch over nature.”
“It is said that the Elements of Nature will return when a New Wild Guardian is chosen” The words continued. “Now, that time has come; welcome Max Yamato, the new Wild Guardian.” The friends stared with wide eyes. “What now?” Max asked. “Only time will tell, chosen one.” The reply came. “Only time will tell.”
