Chapter 3- Alola little star children
“Alright, now roar!” Kat instructed as he adjusted his sound proof headphones that also covered his feline ears. Following Kat’s instruction Sulley unleashed a mighty roar that echoed all around them, even though there were windows around them, Sulley managed to control the decibels of his roar to prevent them from shattering. After allowing Sulley to roar for a few more seconds Kat put his hand up to gesture for Sulley to stop, which he did,
“Alright now talk like normal,” Kat instructed as he uncovered an ear from his headphones,
“Hey how’s it going?” Sulley asked casually with his voice at a moderate volume,
“Alright now Ben, phase 2 of training once again, get close to him,” Kat instructed. Ben did as Kat instructed and got close while Kat did the same,
“Alright aura on,” Kat instructed, causing Sulley to allow the yellow aura to flow from his body, which caused both Kat and Ben to giggle,
“Hahah, Okay, aurahahah ohahahaff,” Kat managed to say through his laughter. Sulley then willed the strange yellow aura to immediately stop coming out of his body, causing Kat to stop laughing, though Ben continued for a bit longer,
“Uh Ben? He shut the laughter aura off,” Kat informed Ben,
“Forchehehive hahahahabit hehe,” Ben replied as he slowly managed to stop his laughter. Kat patted Sulley on the back,
“Nice job big guy, after about one hundred of these test runs, I think you’ve finally got the hang of these new powers of yours,” Kat explained,
“I think so too, thanks for your help Kat. The training you recommended really helped,” Sulley informed Kat,
“Heh, I seem to have a knack for helping people with training. Which I guess makes sense considering I went through years of it,” Kat replied
“Oh yeah? Did you ever take a break or vacation between training?” Ben asked,
“Nah, there wasn’t really time for that,” Kat explained,
“Are you serious? Everyone needs a vacation every now and then,” Ben explained,
“Actually, didn’t you take a vacation to the Alola region recently bro?” Sulley asked,
“I did, and I even got Popplio as a gift from Professor Kukui” Ben explained,
“Popplio?” Sulley inquired,
“You remember that box I showed you that day I got back from vacation? Well turns out that inside was a pokeball that had a Popplio,” Ben explained as he got out the pokeball and released Popplio from it, causing him to give off his cry,
“Oh, so you have the water starter,” Kat commented,
“Yeah, did you get another starter from Professor Kukui Kat?” Ben asked,
“Not from him personally no, though I did come across the fire starter,” Kat explained,
“Oh so you have Litten! Can I see?” Ben asked excitedly,
“Sure, though he’s not a Litten,” Kat explained,
“Huh? What do you m-?” Ben tried asking, though he was interrupted by Kat pulling out a pokeball of his own and releasing the pokemon within. The beam of light that poured out of Kat’s pokeball quickly took form and revealed a blue Incineroar with a chip in his ear as he let out his fierce cry that contrasted with Popplio’s cute cry,
“Woah! An Incineroar!” Ben commented in amazement,
“Yep,” Kat replied casually,
“...why is he blue though?” Ben asked,
“Long story,” Kat explained dismissively,
“But hey, if you want to take a vacation, maybe you should go to the Alola region too,” Ben suggested,
“Y’know, that doesn’t sound like a bad idea. It would be kind of cool to see the region where Bruiser originated from,” Kat explained,
“And Bruiser is…?” Ben asked. Kat pointed towards the blue incineroar, who scowled at him,
“Ah you nickname your pokemon,” Ben commented,
“You don’t?” Kat asked,
“Nah, I think the species name is perfectly fine… also Bruiser doesn’t seem like he’s in a good mood,” Ben commented,
“He never is,” Kat explained before returning Bruiser to his pokeball,
“Why?” Ben asked,
“Let’s just say that something happened between us that caused him to hate me,” Kat explained,
“Ah, that must suck,” Ben commented,
“Sometimes, though on the plus side- he still helps me out when I really need him,” Kat explained,
“Well that’s good. And hey, maybe taking him back to his home region might give him a more positive opinion of you?” Ben suggested,
“Maybe, anyway training is done for today, let’s hit the showers,” said Kat,
“Not all at the same time though, right?” Ben asked,
“Yeah? Why would we not?” Kat asked,
“You really are shameless when it comes to being naked, aren’t you Kat?” Sulley asked,
“Like you’re one to talk,” Kat replied with a sassy tone, causing Sulley to blush and Ben to giggle a bit.
Thus after getting cleaned up, Ben and Kat decided to show their other teammates their pokemon before calling it a day, when everyone was retiring to their respective rooms, Kat slept with Panthro in his bed as they cuddled for a while until both passed out from fatigue. It didn’t feel like very long after closing his eyes that Kat heard an alarm going off,
“Mmm… five more minutes big guy, please…” Kat whined groggily,
“Kat, that isn’t a regular alarm, that’s a distress call,” Panthro explained in a perfectly awake tone. Kat opened his eyes to see that Panthro was in fact out of bed and fastening his gear on, meanwhile Kat realized he was spooning a pillow that he mistook for his boyfriend. Kat groaned,
“It’s too early for the world to be in danger…” said Kat facetiously as he reluctantly got out of bed,
“Stop whining, this is what we signed up for,” Panthro replied, Kat sighed and got dressed in proper clothing before rushing to the lab with Panthro.
At the lab, Kat and Panthro got together with the other anthros as Winson started going over information displayed on his computer monitor,
“We recently received a distress call coming from the Alola region in the pokemon world- basically what we call the world where pokemon originate from,” Winston explained,
“Ok, so how do we check it out?” Kat asked,
“You’ll have to take a boat to the world ripple,” Winston explained,
“A boat?” Ben inquired,
“Yeah, the ripple is out in the middle of the water, I do have an invention in mind that could theoretically teleport you guys to the worlds within the ripples by honing the unique energy the ripples give off, but that invention is still in development unfortunately, and won’t be ready for some time,” Winston explained,
“Winston, will you be going with us to check out the distress call?” Panthro asked,
“Can’t. I have a lot more projects and experiments to run. Pick me up a souvenir though,” said Winston casually,
“Alright then anthros, let’s go check out the distress call,” Panthro informed his fellow anthros before the team made their way out of the base and onto a nearby dock where a friendly captain was waiting to escort them.
On the boat trip Kat noticed that Panthro seemed uneasy as he curled up and stayed in a corner and shivered,
“What’s wrong big guy?” Kat asked,
“The water always makes me nervous… especially since I can’t swim,” Panthro explained,
“Ah, sorry to hear that, will you be alright until we get to land?” Kat asked,
“I’ll manage,” Panthro informed Kat. A slight smile appeared on Kat’s face before he gave Panthro a kiss on the forehead, which caused a smile to appear on Panthro’s face, and presumably calmed his nerves a bit. After Kat left Panthro be Ben decided to approach him,
“Hey Kat, isn’t it ironic?” Ben asked,
“Huh?” Kat inquired,
“Just yesterday we were talking about Alola, and here we are going there,” Ben explained,
“That isn’t irony…” Kat replied,
“You know what I mean,” Ben replied,
“Yeah, funny how fate works sometimes,” Kat commented,
“Maybe this can be like a vacation for you?” Ben suggested,
“Ben, this isn’t a vacation, we’re strictly doing hero work while we’re in Alola,” Kat informed Ben,
“I guess so, though a region of islands must be a nice change of pace from… well what you usually do,” Ben commented,
“I guess, plus either way I can explore the island a bit with Bruiser, it’ll be nice to see where he came from,” Kat commented,
“And if we have time I can thank Kukui for giving me Popplio!” said Ben excitedly,
“That’s a nice bonus,” Kat commented. The boat trip lasted for a few hours, though eventually they found and made their way through the world ripple, bringing them to the pokemon world, and not long after that to the tropical Alola region.
Panthro was the first off the boat, barely even waiting for it to be anchored before leaping off the boat and running a bit to get some distance between him and the water. The other anthros followed suit and grouped around Panthro on the road near the dock,
“Alright guys, the distress call originated specifically from Ula’ula island, which is where we are right now. Doggie, Sulley, Jon and Leomon, you guys come with me to check out the call,” Panthro instructed,
“Wait, what about me and Ben?” Kat asked,
“We should be fine without you guys, you’re mainly here as backup in case things go south,” Panthro explained,
“That’s only if you guys need help right? What are we supposed to do in the meantime?” Ben asked,
“Anything as long as you don’t get in our way,” said Jon bluntly,
“Jon, don’t be rude. Though yeah as long as you guys don’t get into trouble it shouldn’t matter,” Doggie explained,
“Are you guys sure you won’t need our help?” Kat asked,
“I’m sure, the five of us should be enough to take care of the problem. Just take this time to unwind and explore the island,” Panthro explained,
“Well alright, you’re the boss,” Kat commented,
“Stay safe bro, we shouldn’t be too long if all goes well,” Sulley instructed Ben,
“Ok, you be safe too,” Ben replied.
Thus almost as quickly as they arrived, most of the anthros split off and headed elsewhere on the island, leaving Kat and Ben on the road near the dock,
“So it looks like you can take this time we’re on Alola to relax,” Ben commented,
“I guess so, though where exactly are we?” Kat asked,
“Malie City, it’s a city on Ula’Ula island that’s close to the dock,” Ben explained,
“I see… Well if I’m going to unwind is there a beach we can relax at?” Kat asked,
“Yeah, there’s a beach on Route 15, though it’s on the other side of the island, we’d have to rent a ride pokemon to get over there,” Ben explained,
“Ride pokemon? Can’t we just walk there?” Kat asked,
“We’d have to do a lot of walking Kat, plus who knows how long we’re going to be on this island anyway?” Ben asked rhetorically,
“I like walking though,” Kat pointed out,
“Well then walk if you want, though I think personally I’m going to go there on a Charizard,” Ben explained. Kat’s ears perked up from what Ben last said,
“Hold on… you’re saying we could go to the beach.. Riding Dragons??” Kat asked in amazement,
“Uh.. I guess? Though technically Charizard isn-” Ben tried to explain, though Kat took off and started running towards Malie city excitedly,
“Dragons!!” said Kat with child-like excitement as he ran. Ben sighed though smiled a bit,
“I guess Kat is like the Unovian champion Iris,” Ben commented to himself as he walked towards Malie city, casually following after Kat.
After renting a Charizard and putting on some ride gear, then taking off that same ride gear when they arrived at Route 15, Ben and Kat decided to walk around the beach on that route and explore. Kat found some Pyukumuku that he decided to chuck back into the water, while Ben encountered some Sandygast and even a Palossand that had him running in the opposite direction. Kat and Ben decided to release their pokemon so they could have some fun with them at the beach, which Popplio seemed eager to take part in, though Bruiser seemed disinterested and wandered off. Kat tried his hand at some fishing at the shore and reeled in some small non-pokemon fish that he fed to Popplio while Ben used his ride pokemon pager to rent a Lapras to swim around in the water, which turned into him changing it out for a Sharpedo to go faster. Then the two of them relaxed in the shade for a while, Ben took a nap with Popplio while Kat decided to do some reading with the book he bought at one of the stores in Malie city. Kat gave a satisfied sigh, for it wasn’t often that he could take some time to enjoy himself, much less on a nice tropical island full of pokemon, so the time off that Panthro granted him felt especially special. Kat then speculated that Panthro might have overheard him talking to Ben and decided to give him some time to relax as a nice gesture, which Kat didn’t have direct evidence for nor did he care enough to bother asking Panthro if that was the case when he next saw him. Kat found himself stuck on the same paragraph as Panthro invaded his mind and he was unable to concentrate on reading, though Kat didn’t seem to care and simply bookmarked the page and closed the book before setting it down, Panthro was always welcome in Kat’s mind after all.
Kat’s daydreaming was interrupted when he heard some nearby rustling, so Kat decided to check it out, leaving Ben and Popplio at the beach. At first Kat had thought that the rustling was Bruiser returning to him, which he always did like the cat he was, though as Kat moved towards the rustling he was alarmed at the lack of a burnt fur smell that vaguely lingered on Bruiser. Upon being right next to the rustling foliage, Kat witnessed a pokemon come out of the foliage and float next to him, though it wasn’t any regular pokemon that appeared before him, but rather the mythical Tapu Lele in all her butterfly-like elegance,
“You there! You’re one of the ones we seek,” she explained through her cries, which a regular human wouldn’t understand, though thankfully hybrids like Kat could understand feral animals due to being part animal, and pokemon were especially understandable to hybrids due to them essentially being smarter and more sentient animals. Kat tilted his head,
“Huh? What are you saying?” Kat asked,
“There’s no time to explain, just come with us,” said Tapu Lele,
“Us?” Kat asked, noting how Tapu Lele seemed to be the only one around,
“Fini!” Tapu Lele called out, causing Tapu Fini, the other female Tapu to appear next to her in all her mermaid-like beauty,
“You found him? Excellent. Let’s take him to the lake,” Tapu Fini suggested,
“Lake? Did you perhaps mean the beach, because I was just there,” Kat informed the Tapus,
“No, we mean the Lake… of Sunne,” Tapu Fini informed him before an Ultra wormhole appeared behind them, causing Kat to jump slightly,
“Right on time,” said Tapu Lele before she and Tapu Fini each grabbed one of Kat’s hands and carefully yet assertively led him into the Ultra wormhole. Neither Tapu seemed malicious, so Kat decided to trust them and go into the wormhole without making a huge deal about it, though he did hope that he would be able to return after he was done at the lake since he didn’t want to leave his team worrying, nor did he want to leave Bruiser behind,as moody as he could be.
Kat came to and realized that he stood before a large lake that had a stone bridge and a castle-like structure in the middle and behind him was a dark meadow. Upon looking around at his surroundings Kat realized that Tapu Lele and Tapu Fini were no longer around him, though he inferred that they wanted him to enter the castle structure since they brought him there. The structure that Kat entered wasn’t much of a castle considering it didn’t have any rooms or branching pathways, but rather one long hallway that led to some ascending stairs. At the top of those stairs Kat was outside again and noticed a large alter-like structure up a few more flights of stairs, so Kat took a deep breath and travelled up them, noticing the weather was surprisingly dark and cloudy for how bright and sunny it was minutes ago. When Kat was finally at the top, he saw Tapu Lele and Tapu Fini waiting for him, and Tapu Lele looked to be holding a much smaller pokemon that Kat didn’t recognize,
“Thank you for coming to the Altar of the Sunne hybrid,” said Tapu Lele,
“Call me Kat,” Kat instructed,
“As you wish, Kat. Do you know why we brought you here?” Tapu Fini asked,
“I don’t… and what pokemon is that you’re holding?” Kat asked, referring to the pokemon resembling a small infantile gaseous cloud with sparkles of starlight within its body,
“This is Cosmog, the Nebula pokemon. He may not look like much now, but like you he has an amazing destiny waiting for him,” Tapu Lele explained,
“Amazing destiny?” Kat inquired,
“Cosmog is a very unique pokemon, if raised with love and patience and brought back to one of the sacred altars when the time is right, he has the potential to evolve into one of two amazing legendaries- The lion of the Sunne, or the bat of the Moone,” Tapu Fini explained,
“Woah, I’ve heard of pokemon having different final forms, but both forms are legendaries? That’s amazing. Though why are you telling me this?” Kat asked,
“Is that not obvious? You are the one who must raise cosmog,” Tapu Lele informed Kat,
“Me?” Kat asked in surprise,
“Yes Kat, the many worlds are in danger, and the time has come for Solgaleo and Lunala to come forth, though it would take far too long for them to reach their strongest forms on their own, which is where you and the Sullicoot come in,” Tapu Fini explained,
“Ben? What does he have to do with this?” Kat asked,
“He will be given a cosmog of his own to raise, presumably he should be given one at this time if the other two managed to get a hold of him. He will raise his cosmog into Lunala, and you will raise yours into Solgaleo,” Tapu Lele explained,
“Solgaleo?... that’s the ‘lion of the sunne’, right?” Kat asked,
“Correct” Tapu Fini replied with a nod,
“I think you’ve got the wrong guy, my thing is darkness. I don’t have any business raising a light pokemon,” Kat explained,
“The element you’re comfortable working with may seem to clash with what is being asked of you, but we assure you it’s no mistake. The twin cosmogs must be trusted with legendary heroes to ensure they’ll reach their full potential efficiently. The thief of darkness must bring forth the lion of the sunne, and the keyblade wielder from another world must bring forth the bat of the moone. There is no doubt it will be a challenge, but it is a necessary challenge to overcome to ensure that the two legendaries are brought into existence,” Tapu Lele explained,
“Not to mention you two aren’t completely void of the respective elements, you have more light in your heart than you may realize, and Ben has a darkness within him that he keeps in check,” Tapu Fini explained,
“He does? Then again I guess everyone has their dark side,” Kat thought to himself.
Tapu Lele then floated closer to Kat and offered Cosmog to him,
“Here, there’s no time to waste. Take him with you, and raise him,” Tapu Lele instructed,
“I don’t know if I’m up for this… the only pokemon I have, I managed to get him to hate me,” Kat admitted nervously,
“He doesn’t hate you, the Incineroar loves you more than you may know. Now take Cosmog, you’ll know he’s close to becoming Solgaleo when he evolves into Cosmoem,” Tapu Lele explained, the comment about Bruiser took Kat by surprise, but he still shook his head,
“I can’t do this!” said Kat doubtfully,
“You must,” Tapu Lele replied bluntly. Kat and Tapu Lele stared at each other for a while until Kat sighed and reluctantly took Cosmog from her. After Kat had taken Cosmog Tapu Fini approached Kat and handed him a strange white wristband with a diamond shaped slot,
“What is this?” Kat asked as he examined the strange wristband,
“A Z-Ring, put it on, it’ll be important to harness the power of the Z-stones you may come across,” Tapu Fini explained. Kat decided that arguing with Tapus was useless and did as Tapu Fini instructed, putting the Z-Ring on his left wrist, which caused it to glow for a bit before it stopped glowing. Kat looked from his new Z-Ring to his new Cosmog, just when he thought he’d regret making the decision to agree to raise Cosmog, looking into his yellow eyes was all that was needed to dash that regret, a smile spread across the Cosmog’s face, and though Kat could understand pokemon as if they were humans, everything Cosmog said sounded like baby coos and gurgles. Kat smiled and hugged the small pokemon into his chest, feeling any sort of doubt he once had about looking after Cosmog fade away. Kat turned to Tapu Lele,
“May I name him?” Kat asked,
“As long as he is comfortable with the name,” Tapu Lele explained,
“I think I’ll name him… Starman,” Kat explained, causing Cosmog to coo excitedly, which caused a mouthless smile to appear on Tapu Lele’s face,
“It looks like he has no objections. Take care little Starman, don’t cause too much trouble for Kat, and always be by his side, no matter how hard things may get,” Tapu Lele explained to Starman, who cooed in agreement. An ultra wormhole appeared behind Kat,
“Now you must return from whence we retrieved you from. Farewell Kat, we’re counting on you,” Tapu Lele explained before she and Tapu Fini once again grabbed Kat and gently brought him into the ultra wormhole, along with Starman.
Kat once again came to, and realized he was in the middle of the dark meadow, which he realized was called “Ula’ula Meadow” upon reading a nearby sign. Starman seemed uneasy in Kat’s arms, though Kat did his best to calm him down,
“It’s ok Starman, I know this meadow doesn’t seem like the most welcoming place, but we’ll get out of here and find my friends,” said Kat with a reassuring tone. Unfortunately Kat could feel a great power approach him, and upon looking further down the meadow saw a pokemon you wouldn’t expect to see in the Alola region- Mewtwo. Kat and the Mewtwo stared each other down for a while, Kat could see intense psychic power flow around Mewtwo like static,
“What do you want?” Kat asked,
“That pokemon, you plan to use it as a tool. Don’t you?” Mewtwo asked,
“A tool? Not really, I just plan on raising him, it’s a whole thing,” Kat tried to explain,
“And how do you raise a pokemon? By forcing them to battle… All trainers are the same, pokemon are only useful to them when they are strong, the weak pokemon have no place in this world until they get stronger. It’s a vicious cycle where humans remain at the top throughout all of it,” said Mewtwo,
“I’m not a human tho-” Kat tried to add, though Mewtwo cut him off,
“This world would be so much better without trainers, if pokemon could grow and develop on their own without people subjecting them to awful things for their own gain…” said Mewtwo with an unsettling tone that caused Kat to step back a little,
“Hey listen, I don’t want any trouble,” Kat tried explaining, though Mewtwo didn’t pay him any mind and formed a Shadow Ball in his hand, which caught Kat off guard,
“Don’t worry little one, I will set you free,” said Mewtwo in an eerily quiet tone before he launched the Shadow Ball at Kat. With little time to dodge, Kat turned around so he’d take the brunt of the Shadow Ball, though Starman refused to allow Kat to get hurt, and teleported him away before he could get hit.
Kat’s eyes widened when he realized that he and Starman were no longer in the Ula’ula Meadow, but rather back at the beach on Route 15. Upon realizing that Starman saved him from getting hurt, Kat hugged the Cosmog close to him,
“Thanks little guy,” said Kat graciously, Starman cooed happily in response. Though it was too early to celebrate since Kat could see Mewtwo tearing through the sky at a supersonic speed before landing near Kat furiously,
“You thought you could escape me?! What type of fool do you take me for?” Mewtwo asked furiously,
“I don’t think you’re any type of fool! Just leave me and Starman alone!” Kat demanded,
“That’s what I absolutely hate about humans, they won’t show any mercy themselves, and yet they expect everyone to show them mercy despite all the horrible things they’ve done…” Mewtwo commented. Kat then gently put Starman down as he saw Mewtwo ready another Shadow Ball,
“Listen, if you want to fight…” said Kat, though Mewtwo cut him off by firing his Shadow Ball at Kat once again, though this time Kat reached a hand out and absorbed the dark energy of the attack and then proceeded to create a weapon (namely a Katana) out of thin air using his energy before holding the sword at Mewtwo threateningly,
“Then I’ll fight if I have to,” said Kat, finishing his sentence,
“What?... You absorbed the dark energy of my attack and created a weapon out of nothing?” Mewtwo asked with a confused tone,
“Yeah, those are my abilities,” Kat explained,
“No matter, I’ll still put an end to you,” said Mewtwo as he prepared for battle, while Kat signalled Starman to stay back.
Kat and Mewtwo clashed, the fight consisted of Kat dodging Mewtwo’s shadow balls and Mewtwo keeping his distance from Kat’s sword, thankfully Mewtwo didn’t dare harm Starman so Kat didn’t have to worry too much about his safety and focus on the fight. The two seemed to be at a pretty even fighting level to each other for the next few minutes, though eventually Mewtwo used his psychic power to uproot a nearby tree and launch it at Kat, who narrowly dodged it. Mewtwo then used Swift to fire some stars towards Kat that followed him like heat-seeking missiles so the hybrid found them to be significantly harder to dodge than the shadow balls or the tree. Eventually the stars caught up to Kat and hit him in the back, causing him to fall to his knees, Mewtwo took this opportunity to summon a large spoon the size of him,
“What the f-?” said Kat before Mewtwo cut him off,
“Sayonara,” said Mewtwo before he launched the spoon at Kat. Much to both Kat and Mewtwo’s surprise though, a certain blue Incineroar jumped out of some nearby foliage and caught the spoon before it had a chance to hit Kat, then roared as his belt flame erupted and immediately melted the spoon into a silver puddle that unceremoniously fell to the ground,
“Bruiser?” said Kat in an amazed tone,
“What is this?? Not only do you trainers force pokemon to battle against their will, but you also alter their appearance to suit your own preferences?! That’s it I’m going to-!” Mewtwo said angrily before Bruiser spoke up,
“Hey,” said Bruiser with a tough voice, catching Mewtwo off guard,
“Huh?” said Mewtwo in a confused tone,
“A few things- first of all, Kat isn’t forcing me to do anything, I’m fighting you because frankly you piss me off. Second- I do agree that a lot of humans are trash, but it’s irresponsible to punish every human for the actions of a select number of them. Some trainers are genuinely kind and hurting innocent people because you’re angry makes you no better than the trainers that you hate. And third- he didn’t alter my appearance, Kat has made a lot of mistakes in the past, but turning me into a blueberry isn’t one of them,” Bruiser explained bluntly, causing Mewtwo to be taken aback by how thoroughly he explained his stance,
“But… then why are you blue?” Mewtwo asked,
“Why? None of your business, that’s why. Now shut up and prepare for a beatdown,” said Bruiser before he charged at Mewtwo with a Darkest Lariat, hitting Mewtwo directly and causing him to double over. While Bruiser was close, he grabbed Mewtwo and hit him in the face with a Thunder Punch, sending him to collide with a nearby tree. Kat got up off the ground,
“Bruiser, let me help you,” said Kat as he went to pick his katana up, though was caught off guard when Bruiser’s foot appeared on top of the blade’s handle before Kat could grab it,
“You want to help? Then stay out of my way,” said Bruiser bluntly,
“Can you not? We’re in the middle of a battle with a legendary!” Kat argued back in annoyance,
“No, I’M in the middle of a battle with a legendary, you’re staying out of this,” said Bruiser Just when Kat was going to argue back he noticed a green glow surrounding Mewtwo,
“Great… Recover, I hope you’re happy,” said Bruiser in annoyance,
“Me?! It’s your fault for being an edgy and demanding piece of crap when you should’ve just let me help, we could’ve finished him together!” Kat pointed out,
“Whatever, just stay back and stay out of my way!” Bruiser demanded before running back to Mewtwo, who hit him with a point-blank Swift that caused both him to wince and Kat to flinch from witnessing how painful it looked. Mewtwo and Bruiser then got into a fist fight that Kat didn’t see too much of because Kat heard a nearby “Psst” exclamation that got his attention. Kat turned to some nearby foliage to see Professor Kukui, who flipped him a strange red stone as if it were a coin, the gemstone was geometrically diamond shaped with a simplistic Incineroar head symbol within,
“What is this thing?” Kat asked quietly,
“A shard of Incinium-Z, put it in your Z-ring and help your Incineroar,” Professor Kukui instructed,
“Oh gods, do I have to do a little dance?” Kat asked in embarrassment,
“You want to help him don’t you?” Kukui asked rhetorically. Kat then groaned before reluctantly inserting the Incinium-Z into the slot on his Z-Ring.
Kat then proceeded to do the dance necessary to access the Z-stone’s power, almost perfectly (if reluctantly) done from memory, Bruiser then glowed with a bright yellow energy, which caught both him and Mewtwo off guard. Bruiser turned towards Kat,
“What do you think you’re doing?” Bruiser asked in annoyance,
“Shut up and hit him with a Malicious Moonsault!” Kat demanded. Bruiser clicked his tongue and reluctantly followed Kat’s command, unleashing his full-force Z-Move. A wrestling ring made of energy appeared out of the ground beneath Mewtwo, and Bruiser dashed towards it before jumping onto and almost immediately after off one of the posts on the strange ring, right before Bruiser jumped though, Kat put his hands in the air with his pointer fingers out, almost like he was cheering for Bruiser like a fan. Bruiser then went high into the air before coming down and crashing into the confused Mewtwo, creating a large explosion of energy that sent some dust flying everywhere.
After the dust cleared, Bruiser stood over Mewtwo with his arms crossed, while Mewtwo seemed conscious, if only barely, clearly being badly bruised,
“I dare you to use Recover, I’ll chop your throat before you have a chance,” said Bruiser with a casually threatening tone. Mewtwo coughed a bit,
“This isn’t over… I will make these worlds better places for pokemon, mark my words,” said Mewtwo before he teleported elsewhere. Kat approached Bruiser and attempted to pat him on the back, though Bruiser seemed to shy away from Kat’s hand,
“Uh.. thanks… y’know for saving me,” said Kat graciously,
“Yeah, whatever…” said Bruiser bluntly before he took the pokeball off of Kat’s belt and returned himself to his own ball, which Kat caught as it fell. Kat then turned his attention to Starman, who was waiting patiently and with plenty of anticipation and worry for Kat, who knelt down and scooped him up in his arms, causing Starman to coo happily, which in turn caused Kat to become happier. Finally Kat turned his attention back to Professor Kukui, who was waiting patiently with a smile on his face,
“Quite an entourage you’ve got,” Kukui commented,
“You’re telling me…” said Kat,
“A blue Incineroar and a Cosmog? As far as trainers go- you’re one of a kind,” Professor Kukui commented,
“Thanks, so I take it you’re Professor Kukui? I vaguely remember seeing a photo of you before I came here,” Kat explained,
“Yep that’s me, I was the one who sent out the distress signal since Mewtwo was causing trouble in Alola,” Kukui explained,
“Oh yeah?” said Kat inquiriously,
“Yeah, I saw you arrive with your hero team, though they had you and Ben sit this mission out,” said Kukui,
“You know Ben?” Kat asked,
“Yeah, I gave him a Popplio as a present after all,” Kukui explained,
“Ah of course,” said Kat,
“Though speaking of starters, I must say- You’re Incineroar is one of a kind, and I’m not just talking about it’s color. It’s strength and passion is as fiery as the flames that comprise its belt!” said Kukui excitedly,
“Yeah, it’s too bad he hates me…” Kat explained,
“Ah he doesn’t hate you, I should know considering I have an Incineroar of my own. He may have a rough exterior, but it definitely comes from a place of caring, he did save you from getting impaled by a giant spoon didn’t he?” Kukui asked,
“I guess so…” said Kat, still unconvinced,
“As for your Cosmog, he’s positively adorable, it’s been a while since I’ve seen one like him,” Kukui explained,
“Wait, does that mean other Cosmogs have existed?” Kat asked himself. Suddenly though Kat heard Panthro call out to him, and saw him and the rest of the anthros, including Ben holding his own Cosmog approach him,
“There you are, we’ve been looking all over for you! You had us worried sick,” Panthro explained with a concerned tone,
“There’s no need for alarm, Kat and his amazing pokemon took care of the Mewtwo situation,” Kukui explained
“You did? Wait, why are you holding the same thing that Ben is holding?” Sulley asked,
“Long story,” said Kat dismissively, Kukui then approached Ben,
“Ah Ben! Just the guy I wanted to see, I trust that Popplio has been good to you, and vice-versa?” Kukui asked,
“You bet Professor, he’s already helped me out of some tight spots,” Ben explained,
“In that case- here” said Kukui as he took a blue Z-Stone out of his lab coat and handed it to Ben, who took it and gingerly examined it,
“What is it?” Ben asked,
“Well I can see you have a Z-Ring of your own, so I got you a shard of Primarium-Z for when Popplio fully evolves into Primarina,” Kukui explained,
“Ah I see, thanks Professor,” said Ben graciously,
“So the distress call is taken care of right? Meaning we can go home now?” Jon asked in annoyance,
“It would appear that way,” Leomon commented,
“Great, then let’s go. We have a long boat trip to go before we’re back home,” said Jon as he started walking back to the dock near Malie City. Panthro shivered a little at the realization that he’ll have to go onto the boat again, though he put on a brave face,
“Great job today team, especially you Kat. This was a successful mission, now let’s go home,” said Panthro as he started walking towards the dock. The other anthros followed suit and walked towards the dock, though Kat and Ben hung back to the end of the line so they could talk,
“So you have a Cosmog to raise too huh?” said Ben,
“Yep, and I take it you were given yours by the Tapus?” Kat asked,
“Yep,” Ben replied. Kat and Ben then looked at their own Cosmogs before sighing, it was a nice adventure with a nice resolution, but Kat and Ben were going to have to put a lot of work into raising their Cosmogs, though such is one of the many unexpected things to happen when you find yourself crossing over.
