"What has become of you, Sinner?"

"What do you mean?"

The other devil snapped the tip of his cane against the ground, growling low.

"You used to be the most hunted creature in existence. Gods wanted what you have. And now look at you, playing lapdog to some otherworldly being with daddy issues."

Babylon frowned and looked away.

"That 'being with daddy issues' is good to work for. I have protection from most of the things that want me dead. I get to spend my days protecting the first of two things I would die for. I have no complaints, and no regrets."

He could feel the other devil frowning at him, even though he couldn't see it.

"You've fallen far, Babylon. I wonder if you can even see how high your tower used to be..."

Babylon and Julian have a little chat about the former's life and where it's headed.

Yes, Julian is new. He's spiffy and classy. You'll notice that his tail is normal, and he doesn't have claws welded to his fingers. And he still has his eyes.

Babylon's tail was erased because I thought it was too cluttered with it there.
