My buddy, the-fourth-knower doesn’t like the fact that I keep on interchanging between Erco and Edge throughout this piece, mainly because I wanted to specify when Erco considers himself ‘Erco’ and when he considers himself ‘Edge’. The fact that most of my characters only ever call him ‘Edge’ should give you credence enough at how Erco considers giving out his actual name at times.
Anyways, onto the bio.
Erco ‘Edge the Sharp’ the Mazurian
Age: 16
Occupation: Protector of Lady Windlemire
Personality: Headstrong and highly adaptable are Erco’s main traits. Erco holds his ground during any situation – regardless of it’s just simply listening to an irate civilian for hours on end or helping old ladies across the road. Erco accomplishes his job through to completion. Erco is knightly in his mannerisms, often deferring to someone of a higher position from him. He usually refers to his employer Sonia Windlemire for this reason, even though there seems to be more between the two.
Despite his loyalty to his benefactor, Edge can -- and will -- fight against his benefactor when they go over the line. Edge has on several occasions stopped Lady Windlemire from nearly getting herself killed during Eggman’s takeover. Edge has also fought against Sonia and the other rich folk when he felt they weren’t being sincere, mocking them with sharp words before leaving them to stop a planned heist that he found. Edge, despite his air of knightlyhood, is just as much an adventurous spirit as the rest of the cast, and often drops the demeanour when around Ovi.
Strengths: Erco is very studious in fighting prowess, mainly in weapons like his trusted sword. Erco was granted the nickname ‘Edge the Sharp’ for his proficiency with swords – to the point of being able to throw a cutlass across a room and missing his target just barely. His control also applies to anything he can use as a weapon, from guns to whips to even flyswatters. However, he’s less proficient with other weapons when they are not swords.
Edge is also capable of keeping up with everyone with quick reflexes and has a decent amount of strength in his swings. He’s often suplexing a boulder in the early morning as part of his training exercises, along with his fencing training. On top of this, Edge is also quick to point out things that sound off to him, which surprises a load of people as he often doesn’t talk a lot.
Weaknesses: Erco keeps to himself a lot. In fact, he keeps to himself so much, not many people know that his name is Erco. Erco thinks telling others his real name isn’t important, as he finds it hard to open up to others due to his demeanour. This also causes people to call Erco a ‘robot’ – thanks to his almost loyal attitude and rather cold personality. While in battle this allows Erco to keep people guessing about what he’ll do next, his closest allies barely know anything about what troubles him.
Despite being able to keep up with a weapon, Edge cannot fight back if he does not have a weapon of any kind. While he still has strength and quick reflexes without his weapons, it’s more obvious that he cannot fight as well without them, as Edge does not know how to throw a proper punch or kick and has a more brawler’s style in comparison to Knuckles, Rouge, and Wesser. In fact, it’s surprisingly easy to pin Edge once you get him down, as he won’t struggle nor fight back once someone is on top of him.
Hobbies: Fencing is one of Erco’s favourite past-times; he uses it to calm down and realign himself when he’s struggling to understand something. Often found practicing parries and thrusts with his sword, he’s so in the zone that its wise to keep away from him until he’s finished his routine. Other hobbies include:
· Studying: Surprisingly, Erco is one of the most studious people on the planet. Often seen reading something and taking notes in a book to the right of him, Erco is often learning about things that he didn’t know as a child. He enjoys trying to understand things that he’s never encountered before.
· Insect Pinning: Edge collects insects that are long dead, or have already been pinned by others. He really likes the variety of insects from all over, and tries to display them in whatever room he can.
· Poster Collecting: Edge has a rather unique fascination with collecting posters from movies and pinning them into his home, or framing them if they’re especially rare. Edge does not care about the time period the posters comes from, mixing really old, well-painted works of the 60’s with the more modern digital designs of today.
Likes: Bugs, protecting others, being friends, designs, Sonia, justice
Dislikes: Needles, being used, injustice of any kind, people destroying his collections
Backstory: Born in the city of Kalenta far away from Gwek’s tribe, Erco was born to a family that ran between ‘poor’ and ‘middle income’. While he doesn’t reveal much of his past, Erco left at age 12 to develop his capabilities away from his family. Taking odd jobs here and there so that he could get enough for a ticket to Northamer, Erco found himself in Empire City. Here he hoped to find people who’d help sharpen his skills. It was at this location that Erco got the nickname ‘Edge the Sharp’ from; he hardly ever gave his name to people while looking for the odd job, and the more shadier types assumed he was an orphan on the streets.
Edge, now 14, was running an odd job for a crime boss wanting to deliver a set of goods to someone when he ran into Eggman, the latter looking for a Chaos Emerald signature to power his latest invention. Eggman’s reader reacted harshly to Edge’s body, and immediately he took the boy and hooked him to a ton of wires. Hoping to better understand and take data for how to extract Chaos energy from a being, Eggman neglected to care for Edge in general, letting the boy pass out or outright starve. He got what he wanted – a power source that never needed to be recharged for the best – and last – of the E-100 series, E-123 Omega. Edge was thrown out with the trash immediately, Eggman no longer needing Edge now that he got what he wanted.
Erco was luckily found an hour or so later in the ocean as he drifted by an expensive yacht. A purple hedgehog had been painting the ocean waves as she saw Erco floating, barely conscious. Immediately, she took to the ocean, swimming to Erco before he fully drowned. Once that was done, she got round to returning back to land, wanting to help the stranger recover from his ordeal. Feeling grateful for the hedgehog’s timely arrival, Erco wanted to get to know the hedgehog more. So he asked if he could be part of her life from now on. Unsure of the meaning behind it, the hedgehog agreed, and accepted Erco as her confidant and bodyguard for important events. It is a life debt that Erco takes seriously, and he’d been living/working for the purple hedgehog since.
