Chased by monsters with a thirst for his blood, Daniel finds refuge within the echoes of an old keep. Once inside, he will discover a power and secret that will change his life forever. ~
A silver moon peered from behind the socket-like gaunt of the ancient keep’s barren windows. Daniel’s heart pounded in terror each time he had to reveal himself to the silent watcher’s gaze. Weaving in and out from between the open apertures, the moon’s cold light barely touched the young man’s fleeing form as he hurried past the stonewalled openings, each dart a possible tell to his determined pursuers. Yet, Daniel dreaded that his efforts may still have been for naught. For even if his retreating image did not give him away, his footsteps surely would. Despite his best attempts to the contrary, every plap of his tennis shoes against the smooth floors of the keep echoed in his ears as a loud reverberation that shouted “Here I Am!”.
My first finished commission! Thank you to the commissioner who was so patient with me as I continually revised and rewrote this tale several times. This story includes an anthro ice dragon transformation with some horror elements sprinkled in. Enjoy!

Your imagery was fantastic on this. As a Canadian I can sympathize with that feeling of stepping into the deep snow only to feel it immediately find it's way into your boots and melt, your socks freezing and wet. An utterly miserable feeling!
On top of that, the transformation is very well written, I really liked the trigger you chose for the transformation.
The only thing that I could say is that this world seems a strange and ancient and the men perusing Daniel seem to be a mix of men from both a modern time and a time long since past. I am just struggling a little to understand how this situation came to be and how Daniel somehow became caught up in it all.

Thank you for the solid comment! I'm glad you enjoyed the imagery I portrayed in the story. I spent a good amount of time writing and rewriting a few parts.
I appreciate the critique as well. You are right, I could've conveyed that this was taking place in modern times better. I had hoped that a few mentions of current technology would suffice for the reader but I guess they were not strong enough. As for the situation, there was honestly a much bigger story planned here and this version that you see is one that was heavily scaled back for the sake of completing it. Unfortunately, that muddled up and simplified the actual reason Daniel is in the position he is in. I perhaps should've stayed on the concept that he was stopped and chased from his vehicle a bit more but I was not sure how to do that without revealing that it was humans that were chasing him.
Ultimately though, to give you the reason as I have it, the men stopped and chased Daniel to prevent him from finding the dragon's remains. This was to prevent the rise of another dragon into the world, something that they, as an ancient order of dragon hunters, could not allow. Of course, as we can see, this failed. Next time, I'll be sure to make motivations and the scenario therein clearer. This was just unfortunately a story that I was not sure how to do so without ruining the reveals.
I'll keep your comments in mind for the next story. Thank you again! I really do appreciate it.
