If you want something to sound metal, lean on C Harmonic Minor >:3
This is a little experimental/progressive metal project.. Just two electronically-done guitars having fun with harmonies, sweeps, and pedal tones. I tried to emulate A.J. Minette's (of The Human Abstract) distinctive style, and ended up falling flat on my face >:3 I can't write music this complex yet!
Things I like about how it turned out:
-Harmonized diminished triads. Love the way these sound on a pair of guitars. The intro is an example. The section right before the first solo is another.
-The main riff. Especially when the harmony kicks in during the second half of it.
-Start/stop runs at the beginning of the second solo. God these sound cool >:3
-The first solo. Very neoclassical feel, the mp3 doesn't really do it justice.. It sounds 10x better tapped out on a fretboard legato-style. I really like the harsh abrupt transition back into the main riff.
Things I dislike about how it turned out:
-The clean outro. Ugh. I struggled on this and it really shows. I'm terrible at writing nice-sounding clean guitar melodies. I really need to pick up a classical guitar and take some lessons. It'd help me out so much.
-The start of the second solo. Way too abrupt.. Gotta find a way to lead up to it better..
I think I could improve the sweeping section of the second solo, but it's not the WORST solo I've ever written.. Just something to work on.
This song is pretty much right at the technical limits of my playing.. I might get a video posted of me playing along with it at some point, but it'll probably take awhile before I can get a good clean take >:3
I really need to study percussion >< Sounds so bare without drums.

Dude, this is fantastic. I definitely love the diminished seventh triads. They're reminiscent of Bach's toccata in d minor. And the first solo was amazing. I don't see why you don't like the outro, except that I'd do something different with the piano.
This makes me want to change the strings on my electric guitar and actually plug in my amp. I've been lingering on acoustic for way too long.
.....actually, I just realized that I have no idea where my amp is right now. Weird.

Ah.. thank you >:3 I still need a lot more work. I really want to be able to catch that progmetal/mathcore/neoclassical feeling, but it's complex by definition. I've been playing for a little over a year and a half now, but I'm still fairly new to music theory and composition.. Which is kind of cool, 'cause I still get excited about little things.
See, I'm the opposite way.. Every time I hear an awesome acoustic section in a song, I get upset that I can only play electric :p

With our powers combined......
well, we're probably not Captain Planet.
Either way, I've got years of theory experience, but I have trouble writing music because there are literally infinite possibilities, and I can't structure a song properly. I think I'm getting better but, meh.
If you ever want some theory tips, feel free to ask. According to my AP scores, I'm "highly qualified" or some nonsense. I think I just got lucky by being born with music in my head.

Anything Minor is best for Metal. This is a nice draft... What DAW are you using?
If you need a neat little drum machine DAW I advise checking out the Hammerhead Rhythm Station. Free, and easy to use. A bit too electronic though, but you can always import your own samples.

It's all done in Guitar Pro.. Hardly a DAW at all :p I'm more of a guitarist than a musician, unfortunately =/ Though, I'm learning slowly.
I've played with a few percussion programs, haven't tried Hammerhead yet.. I'll give it a shot, but I don't have much hope for it, I'm terrible with percussion >:3
