An official Velociraptor mongoliensis from me at last for my base roster!
"6ft Turkey" turns out to be... just turkey-sized! Velo was a fairly tiny dromaeosaurid that lived during the Late Cretaceous within the Djadochta Formation, also known as "Flaming cliffs". Within the arid dunes, it lived with protoceratops (one amazing fossil shows protoceratops jaws clamped onto the arm of a velo!), Linheraptor, some oviraptorids, ankylosaurids, and troodontids like saurornithoides.
Even though Jurassic Park called their raptor "velociraptor", it was truly meant to be deinonychus as you can see from the original Concept art! Turns out one just sounded niftier than the other. Crichton (Wrote the Jurassic Park novel) apologetically said to John Ostrom (who discovered the deinonychus) that it just sounded more dramatic.
I used my velociraptor Sovella to color the initial example of this base for a change of pace!
Scott Hartman's wonderful skeletal assisted with my proportions as usual!

They did become aware of it by the sounds of it, but guess they were either uninterested in changing the name or still just liked the sound of velociraptor better. There is actually a few large species other than utahraptor as well. Like austroraptor, dakotaraptor, achillobator and such. But timing and all I suppose.
I remember reading about the Crichton naming thing! IIRC (may well be wrong, since it's been a hot minute) at the time there was still some debate over the naming schema at the time Crichton was hashing out the plot of the original JP novel, since Velocirator antirrhopus was the original nomenclature. AFAIK the bit about the apology is on point. A really interesting bit of pop culture history!
I honestly prefer the accurate depictions to the 'scaly monster' look, and these little anklebiters are precious little murdermachines!

And yeah I can see why VELOCI-Raptor was taken over "Dine-On-A-Kiss" x') Even though dein'ies are super super cute and have a neato name~ Deinonychus? It even looks cool in writing :D
Austro and Dakotas hnn~ I love them names but goodness, I'd never be able to tell them apart other than "They're bigger than velos!" x')
