ABC of the Apocalypse - Daugarn, the Deaf
The first to answer the call was Daugarn, the Deaf.
Despite his name, the vibrations of the ground caused by his mother's scream quickly reached his flagella inside the underground cavern that was his lair, awakening him.
We fell to our knees from the tremor caused by the sheer force of his digging, as that sort of bioluminescent worm climbed up through ancient conduits, sealed since time immemorial to prevent his escape into the surface world.
Each segment of his body vibrated with increasing intensity, anticipating his release from his underground prison, full of fervor and adoration for his mother's words.
We went after him, as fast as possible, following his intermittent glow as the only guide in those narrow and dark environments, witnesses to his advance.
There was a loud bang and then the rumble of thunder. Daugarn had come out, blasting the last of his obstacles with the iron pincers that adorned his head.
He screamed again and his voice turned the earth he had swallowed into fine dust, a cloud of ground debris that slowly rose to the sky, beginning to adorn the dull arch of the celestial vault with new light.
And so, the first newborn stars took their place.
