Like the title says! I did this for the AC '06 Con Book, and the theme was "History" that year. So I decided to do a bit of my own history. I'm half Danish, and grew up with the stories my Dad told me about when he was a little boy during WWII in Copenhagen. My dad says I have inaccuracies in the uniform, but it was really hard to piece it together through old photographs. :/
From 9 April 1940 to 4 May 1945 Denmark was occupied by German forces. Denmark did not give up her national pride or her Jewish citizens. Only 481 of the 7000 Jewish people inhabiting the country were seized and the Danes helped the rest escape to Sweden. There wasn't much the Danish people do to defend their tiny country against Germany, but the made it clear who's side they were on by refusing to be cooperative and showing their national pride
One of the ways the Danes showed their defiance by wearing four Kroner, or Danish coins on red and white ribbon in their button holes. Red and white are the Danish colors, and the four coins totalling nine ore represented the date of the occupation, April 9. I included this on the buck's uniform by his hand.
A few words to "Kong Christian stod ved højen mast" (King Christian stood by the lofty mast) are in the corner there, which is one of the national military songs of Denmark. It's too long to post the translation here, but please Google it, it's an awesome song!

Thank you!
I haven't heard of that one. I'm thinking it's most likely a rumor, because I really can't see the Danes in general giving up the Dannebrog without a gigantic shit fit. It's the oldest continuously used flag pattern in the world, and was the first Nordic Cross stemming back to the 14th century. The pattern was adopted and modified by all the Nordic countries.

I heard about something like that, might be a different story, though. There was something about how the European Union couldn't have -any- religious imagery connected to it. Someone argued that this should extend to the flags of the member states, lest the children are converted by learning about them in school. So, all flags with crosses would have to be abolished.
yeah something like that.. but that flag is a huge part of danish culture so I dont think we'r gonna give it up, like longtail said, its the oldest flag of its kind, that in itself is a pritty big deal :3
but IF it somehow needs to change I hope we go back to our very first flag the one with Odin's Ravens on it that was rad ^-^

most danes would rather leave EU than change the flag but it is the story is just hot air. It was the schools that were touched by it and werent allowed to show any form for religous flag, clothing, symbols and so on even the danish flag.
And the danish flag is the oldest original flag there still is.
Any way nice drawing thumps up from me.
