[c][Scavengers] Boarding 1/2
Pioneer-mega-carriers (or "Carriers") are remnants from the golden era, when empires ruled the stars and grand mining operations were orchestrated to fuel their ravenous factories.
Nowadays, they're used as flagships for various scrapping fleets, titanic bases in dark space.
A carrier is more akin to a space station rather than a ship, hosting numerous civilian quarters and factories in its bulkheads.
Each one of them have a crew numbering in the hundred of thousands, without counting the crew families and entourage following them
Outfitted for long operations and followed by their own little flotilla, carriers will make "tours" on the Frontier lasting from a few months to many years before coming back to the core worlds.
Here they will harvest and refine drifting derelict hulls as well as sell their services to various scavengers clans, granting them safe passage in the Maze where death and richies lies.
big thanks to
for the commission ;), finally allowing me to practice wide angle pics!
still a loooong way to go but hey, it's getting fun!
he wrote a story for the pic here: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/41721392/

tbh, the carriers felt out of fashion rather than being a "lost tech"
after the collapse of the grand space faring empires, current ones don't require mining ships that big.
The crews learned to love their independance and instead of being decommissioned, most ran away with their ships to be freelancers/traders of sort.
That was a long time ago tho, and their descendants have their own subculture nowadays :)

Ahh, I can almost hear the choir singing Adagio for Strings...
So random question, in this setting are anthros exclusively the big guys and the smalls all human (and if that's the case, I'm very curious about this history of how and why that came to be)?
It seems like that how you've always portrayed it, but in this picture:

On either side of the, uh, supplicant, there's a couple of background characters just barely in view who's head silhouettes look just a little too pointy eared.
Just curious.

hey there :D
anthros are the big but humans aren't the only small! they're just very present on the Frontier where the setting take place.
for the "how did this happen", I used the overused trope of "the precursor did it".
Essentially, current macros are the remnants of the bioengineered workforce the precursors used to build the megastructures. Millenias passed tho, they don't have much in common with the original breeds.
there is other antros species at the size of the humans tho, like the guard in the matriarch pic (I'll eventually doodle more aliens in the future, like chitinous species n shit, just focusing on the big tattas for now)
Hope that help!
(Just in case, macros aren't the only "big" thing in the setting. They're often dwarfed by other creatures inside the derelict or in deep space.)
