Working on tweaking and fine-tuning some parts of my Tyrannosaurid-form, and while I was fiddling with something I started talking to a couple friends about how some aspects of his design - like the 'ridged back' - kinda felt like it resembled the PC 'rex a bit. Some might remember I had used 3DCoat to paint a new sparkly design for Raeth onto it to visualize a new one after deciding the simple flat colored with a stripe down his back look was too 'dated', and well one thing led to another and I ended up making this little comparison chart xD Thus, my including them in this pic!
The PC rex is kinda handsome, would be nice to be able to make critters like that~
Anyway, a full on ref sheet will be coming soooooon (meaning: A long time from now) for his rexie, and I plan on updating a few of his other forms too in the future as well. The other two dinos probably won't be a part of the reference though, this was just an addition for the fun of it :>

I've wanted to stop calling him a T-Rex specifically since I've been taking steps to make it more 'unique' and thus he's not really a 'Rex anymore technically speaking x)
Tyrannosaurid's fine though, same family even if a fictional member~ Tyrannos exist in Raeth's world after all!

I think one element that gets lost in size comparisons and to a lesser extent in media, is the 'presence' of an animal. To disgustingly generalize , modern media tends to have this hyperbolic skew to it -- bigger is better. If you haven't been around that animal (TBF that's a bit tricky with rexes), you lose an appreciation of what that modest size would actually be like to comprehend in person. The vocalizations, the footfalls, the scent, the movement add so much.
Tricky but not impossible! While it wasn't a realistic depiction (Three fingies, monstery jaws, etc) the big dinosaur in Oculus's "Dreamdeck" walks up to you from the end of a hallway and in VR the feeling of it getting bigger and bigger as it approaches before towering over you was a very, very different experience than re-watching the same footage after using Bandicam to record it.
It didn't get any bigger or anything, but the sense of scale was far more apparent seeing it in VR than seeing it flat on a screen. Couldn't smell it though ^^ Breath was probably not so great, when it goes rawwwr right in your face haha~ Dinosaur breath!

Still could do some real damage with those jaws, paws, and tail though, even if they're not movie monster sized x'D
But, it also makes me think about like Salamence, Tyrantrum, Lugia.... From Pokemon? Scary, cool, dragons and stuff and yet Salamence is sooooo tiny! Tyrantrum's pretty small too.

Step on someone and it'd still hurt x)
Aaaah I guess I'm thinking Monster Hunter logic to be honest, you'd be amazed how often the tail ends up being a lethal weapon xD
Like Almudron, i'm not afraid of anything BUT his tail. Nine times out of ten when he damages me real hard it's his tail doing all the work.
Anjanath is as close as they'll get to a realistic T-Rex (Subtract his funny nose-bone and the retractable wings and you got a monster that wouldn't look too out of place in a real life setting) uses both his feet and tail to do damage.... But most of the time when he smacks you with his foot it feels like he's just teasing you. But the tail whaps can hurt. Not as much as Almudron, but it can hurt.
Then, there's a more obvious case of Dinovaldo/Glavenus - who's tail is literally a razor sharp sword-blade. If he's not launching fireballs at you, chances are he's trying to hit you with that (Either slamming it down on you or doing a tail-whip or spin)
Aaah but I digresssss. Realistically yeah they'd probably not rely on the tail as a weapon all that much.
