Longing for the familiar future.
This is a commission focusing on the longing to return to the familiar conventions and to meet old friends. Provably very familiar for most. It's a dreamy piece capturing this moment of the mind, with positive attitude. I tried my best to make a lot of personality show through this painting. (:

I probably could write a small book about developing a deep understanding about how to render fur, but finding a good excuse for doing that much work is the challenging part. xP
But here's the short version. Focus on the shapes of the holes between the tufts of hair the fur is made of. Don't think about individual hairs while painting large areas. Try to make as much as possible with uniform colors and no details. On the silhouette, color transitions and the edges of shadows is where you want to put the details and make the texture visible. In those areas you want to show how the hair clumps, if it's try or oily, straight or curled, thin or thick. Show some individual hairs lit in the shade areas and in the silhouette of joints. You don't want to paint it all, just some easy to notice spots for people to figure out what the fur should look like and let the brain auto complete the understanding to the remaining areas of the same color with no details.
