This is a piece I wrote back in high school, I was mostly a tonal composer back then. It is inspired on the fun loving culture that I lived through a lot of the time when I lived in Mexico. A lot of things were cause for celebration. I usually don't like MIDI reproductions of my pieces but a lot of people have suggested I upload this on FA so I will now. It is for small orchestra with added saxophones, and either SATB choir or organ (in this case an organ since I don't have vocal samples). It is a theme and variations as the title suggest, based loosely on some Latin American rhythms.
It starts with the Contrabasses and Cellos in an ostinato rhythm, which goes from beginning to end, and the Bassoon on its highest register, giving us the theme. I have been told it sounds a bit like Ravel's "Bolero" which it does in a way, it follows almost the same concept.
The Congas part is supposed to do more than just hit the drum, such as bass hits, cup, and other techniques, but unfortunately the MIDI only knows to hit the drums so that is all that comes out.
There is also text to this piece if there is a choir but I am working on reediting it so it fits better. It is in Spanish and says things along the line of, "We live life not to work, but to enjoy and have fun."

Piccolo

2 Trumpets
2 Trombones
