Accidental Nostalgia
Well, even though this isn't quite sound B00I00S5A from Goldeneye 007 for the N64, this accidental noise I made with a drum machine plugin's integrated effects instantly sent me on a search for a ROM dump of Goldeneye. I found the audio samples, and listened to each one, like I often do with sample packs I download and I immediately had some memories of my childhood.
I know not everyone cares about this sort of stuff, and I might not seem the kind, but I'm incredibly sentimental over memories of my brother and I. I never talk about my brother since his and my relationship is shaky at best, but when we were kids, he and I were brought together by this game.
I remember waking up at 6 in the morning on Saturday morning after my family got rid of cable in '08 and playing the game with my brother all day long, until our mother would pull the power cable and ground us for the rest of the weekend since we had been "rotting our brains"
He, of course played as Oddjob every time, and used cheats to get Moonraker lasers in the maps, and I almost never won, but all of the hours he and I spent in that game... Never did I think that I'd remember them so fondly. He was the eldest, so, of course, he got to pick the controller first, so he'd pick the only one that worked, and I'd get the one that drifted and didn't always register trigger clicks.
It's kind of funny how such a random thing that sounds so far from what you remember can just send you on a nostalgia trip. I'm hoping to use the sound effects from the game in my music here and there, and I'm expecting more nostalgia trips to come.
Thanks for reading, friends, I know this isn't my usual post style, but sometimes the obscure random events in life are more interesting than the usual riffraff.
