The 1.4 converter turns this lens into f5.6 right? Pretty for wildlife, a nightmare for indoor sports...

Yupyup. I think 420mm on an APS-C camera would be way too close for indoor sports, anyway. If I wanted to do that, I'd probably go for Canon's 10mm f/2.0, or something.

You have the point... 420mm on aps-c is pretty long.

Man, I'd love to take that set-up for a ride on a zoo or something... Pretty neat tight framing for sure...
