Some concept art I did for Verisimili Studios.
The character you see is Wulver. In the old Scottish folklore Wulver was a benevolent werewolf-like spirit. At night he would go fishing and at dawn, as he went back to his den he would leave the fish he caught on windowsills of poor families. He was known to often guide lost travelers to nearby towns and villages. The thing with Wulver is his appearance. He looked rather dangerous and non-local people often feared him. They either ran or attacked him. Wulver was violent when provoked.
The last part was the challenge of his design. In an anthropomorphic world setting a werewolf-like spirit is not really that feared anymore. To add they fearful appearance to Wulver I looked at the Celtic wickers. Ancient Celtic druids often made wicker constructs from bone and wood to scare of unwelcome guests. These constructs often had antlers, a skull and limbs made from wood.
