quiet jeeps are not, esp with a cloth, or for that matter no top, heh. ranch land, huh? have a friend with some, keeps trying to get me out there then keeps coming up with some excuse not to play, lol. I have been really surprised at how bright some of the "dark" spots can actually be. get away from all the light pollution and have a descent moon? who needs lights?
ha, just today i finally got a new roof on mine made out of "sail cloth" its supposed to make it quieter but i have some doubts. also, i like it better when theres no moon, you can get radio reception from thousands of miles away. except my sister was driving and a branch caught my ham antenna and ripped it right off the hood and bent up all the metal around the mount so now i cant hear crap
ooh, ouch! I was running a sail cloth top before I went with my current half top and it was a little quieter than the older ones or even my current one. one thing I have noticed is that the sliding glass half windows are MUCH quieter than the plastic, doesn't change the fact that you still have to shout at any pax you have! HAM, huh? Running a classic 4W Cobra CB, been thinking about getting a license, but the initial equipment costs esp for a mobile station have kept me out of it for now, unless you have any suggestions? Most guys run CB so if anything I would prob. run both, heh.
i dont really know the cost since my uncle gave it to me. its a icom ic-2100 FM tranciever it is are nice and has incredible range, i live around houston texas and during the day i used to be able to get the las vegas fire department on it(obviously i couldnt transmit that far, they have bigger more powerful setups). in the car i also have a cobra CB, a VHF scanner, and a phone i can hook up to the ham although it can only dial 911. when we go out to our ranch we always have a long range radio with us because there is no cell reception to speak of and it takes 2 hours to get to the road and another couple till the nearest hospital. to show how isolated we are here are the coordinates along with a completely made up statement about our ranch http://wikimapia.org/2758128/Ocotillo-Overlook
