The first time that Maeya met Arix, the druid was being attacked by bandits that had decided to make the forest that was under the feline's protection their own. The warrior, hired in the first place to deal with those bandits, protected Maeya and took the bandits down. To thank his savior, the druid brought the dragon back to his tree-den, and spent the following few days treating Arix's wounds. Worried about the feline, enjoying their conversation and impressed by the healing skills of the younger male, the warrior proclaimed himself Maeya's bodyguard, and they quickly became friends.
