Most every page I work on is intended to either progress the story significantly, provide a visually interesting centerpiece, or otherwise attempt/refine some kind of modeling challenge. This was planned as one of the modelling challenges pages, since it's only a bit of narrative boiler-plating inching the story forward. The challenge here was dealing with the labcoat in an unusual way. By putting the coat on, it deviates from my basic setup where the coat is already on and simply moved into a character pose. Cloth sims are very fickle though making these static shots makes it quite a bit simpler than correctly animating them. As such, I found it was not nearly so challenging as I though and produced a decent-looking donning in less than 30 minutes. Of course, if you looked behind him in that 2nd panel, it would be a different story!
