Just in the last few months I caught up on all of Critical Role's season 2. And yesterday I was left in shambles after watching the 7:28 hours of their final episode. I heard about the show for a while now, but never expected it to be as good as it was, and up until the end it never failed to disappoint me. And in my opinion, that is a very rare treat in today's creative industry. Especially at the scale of CR.
Now is it for everyone? Nah, nothing is for everyone. But I sure did enjoy it and the lessons it taught along the way. Last year wasn't the easiest one for me (and for the rest of the world as well), but CR actually managed to mend some things for me. I would say Table Top RPGs are able to let us safely test some things out, and find ourselves through characters we create.
So I'm looking forward to what the CR team will do next, and what I will do next in my own TTRPG games. And what that will bring me as a person and how I can apply it all in my daily life. <3
Thank you Critical Role.

I love Cad so much. x3 And how Tal plays him of course, Cad is my fav character of his for sure. CR is a life saver - I'm super bummed C2 it's over, but also holy cow what a ride it was. Can't wait for C3.
Who are you rooting for in the VM vs MN showdown? Or who do you think will win? I don't think they announced what level it will be at, I think that will make a difference because level 20 druid is kinda insane, giving Keyleth an advantage.

I honestly have no idea who would win in the VM vs MN showdown! I have just started watching C1 with Vox Machina so I'm not familiar with everyone's capabilities. So I'll be rooting for the MN team (because I am most familiar with them!) however as to who would win? VM has a rogue and a druid sooooo that has me worried. I think VM will win, but I'm rooting for some good sport!
What is your take on it?
What is your take on it?
C2 is my favorite personally because I felt the characters were a lot more relatable, so I hope C2 wins, but yeah... some scary folks on VM. That said, plenty of scary folks from MN as well. It's gonna come down to a few things:
1. What map layout will it be this time? Will the rogues be able to hide and do their thing well? Are environmental hazards/benefits going to be a thing again?
2. What will the level be set to? At level 20 some classes, like Druid, become insane where essentially the only counter to Keyleth is to successfully banish her, which will be hard to do. That said, MN only just got to level 16, while VM are at 20. I'd wager they're brought to even levels so it's more fair, but what level is still the question. Do MN get brought up to 20 for a true epic showdown or are VM going to get nerfed?
3. Who exactly is going to be played? Both Sam and Tal have multiple character options for a season. Sam has Scanlan and Tary for C1, while Tal has Molly and Cad for C2. Now, one could make some educated assumptions on this because both each have a clear main, but I never assume anything with Matt as a DM, haha. He could surprise us and allow both to use both characters, which would be even in numbers still. Sam did use Tary in one of their VM battle royales, so it's quite possible, though I will say it's unlikely they get to use all 3 of their characters... Imagine having to play 3, 2 of which were spell users. Good luck keeping track of that!
Can ya tell I've thought about this much? xD Not often I get to chat about CR with folks. My only friends who are into it are waaaaay behind, so I can't openly discuss a whole lot with them. I just get to go "reeeee this thing happened that I can't talk about and I wish you were caught up", to which they reply "some day lul". >:v

So I don't know if you saw, but on the kickstarter campaign that made this whole showdown happen they listed the teams! So it's not going to be all of VM and all of MN.
VM Team: Pike, Vax, Scanlan and 'wildcard' (whatever that means) Percy.
MN Team: Beau, Jester, Fjord and 'wildcard' Taliesin again with Molly.
So with those two teams it seems rather balanced but like you said, it'll depend on the levels.
And hahahah I totally feel yeah about talking about CR with friends. I've only convinced one to start. The number of episodes and the video lengths are terrifying but it's really easy to get into. It worked perfectly for me because I love to listen to podcasts and video essays while I work on commissions!

Ohhh, no I didn't see that! Interesting... So Tal will still be playing 2 characters, the rest just 1. I'm a bit bummed about no Yasha, she's my fav character, and Ashley is so derpy like me that she's just fun to watch. I do love Jester as a very close second though, so at least I get to root for big plays from Laura. Have they announced what level it will be at? Might find out today during the State of the Role thing that is in just a couple hours.
Definitely very long campaigns, yeah. xD It's definitely a journey worth embarking on though. I watched all of C1 and the first 40 or so episodes of C2 during the start of the pandemic where everyone was shutdown and it was hard to find good content to have on as background noise. I saw CR originally during C1, but I kept catching an episode here or there and it didn't hook me until I watched during the whole Ukotoa arc in C2. From then on it's been an obsession. x3 I've gotten 4 people to watch it, but they're not quite as obsessed as I am and just watch the episodes when they feel like it.
