Mr. Master at your service.
yet another OC doodle. Getting hyped for the H3-Beta. Spike Grenade, watch out!
And, no, there's no bow in H3, just thought I'd try something unique.

Take a look at the new screens for H3, I don't make this crap up folks, that's the suit (for lack of better detail).
logistically I believe the Spartan suit is made unisex, with the form fitting part being the rubber-like under layer. It stands to reason that the armor plating needs to accommodate all forms, right?

I'm not eager for H3. The first one was ok, the second one had some interesting moments, but overall was a disapointment to me.
In my opinon, the whole Halo-phenomonon has been taken way out of proportion even at the best of times, and this newest installment is being touted higher in my area then if Christ the Lord Himself were comming back.
But then, I'm not being forced to play it. I just have to put up with people around me constantly hyping about it and listing it as "TEH BESTEST GAME EVAH!!11one!!eleven!"

Your post seems to reflect mostly on single player. Have you tried it online? I agree the campaign is only engaging to a point, I only beat it twice. I feel that any shooter's SP experience is going to be fleeting at best. However, I adore the writing and story, despite what little part it played on gameplay.
Whatever the hype. H2 is the only game that I can -still- play for hours straight online.
I look at H2 as an old chess board. Not much special about it, right? But it unlocks a very simple field for absolute, purity of competition.
So if I weighed various aspects of gaming, I definitely wouldn't claim H2 is best. But by a simple "cost / (time spent playing x enjoyment during this time) = GameRank" then I can't pick anything above HaLOL.

Heh, I don't play online, so I'm woefully ignorant of that part of it's play.
The last game I played for any conciderable length of time was Alien vs. Predator 2. After that, it became almost impossible for me, as a casual gamer, to find a server where I could play with a friendly and conciderate group of people nearer to my skill level.
When Halo came out for PC, my first experiance with Multi ended quite badly when I kicked from a server after 15 minutes of play for "sucking".
Heck, I got kicked from a Call of Duty 2 server once for being too courteous!
The best way I can explain it is to liken it to the Counterstrike community. Unless you are already a part of it, or are willing to dedicate a huge chunk of your time to it, you can't get far.
But my opinon is skewed by my personal experiances, and I'd gladly learn better.

I wouldn't say you need to 'learn better'. Some games appeal to some people more than others, as they have become as wide a media as movies and writing.
I totally understand your feelings and your experiences, and I don't expect you to like Halo all of a sudden. I just hope that -my- comments shed a little light on why some people call Halo a religion.
Another analogy: Halo is like a well made Jig-saw. Gods gift to people wanting to cut very precise and odd shapes into flat material. Is there any device better at this? no.
However, if what you want is to pound some nails into a board, or soldier some metal together the Jig-saw fails by quite some measure.

I understand your points too, I already like the first Halo and while I havn't played through the second one (I don't own an XBox) it had some good points.
And as far as well-made jig-saws, to an extent, the same can be said of Quake 3: Arena, which I played exclusivly online, or any other well-made online game.
If you can make a multi game that's well-balanced with satisfying weapons and some decent maps, it will appeal to someone.
Overall all I think it takes for a game to be succesful (doubly so for a game with multi), is just a dedicated fanbase.
Any game can be a hit if it has people behind it. Heck, remember the game Mortyr? I knew some guys who claim that despite it's awful single-player (one of the worst I've seen) it was a hell of a lot of fun online, even though they had to create the servers themselves.
In all things, I think Halos biggest advantage, was that it got popular. Call it good marketing on Microsofts part, or a great first game and a lot of hype after the fact, but it went beyond being a popular game into being a cultural phenomonon.
That's really my only problem with the game. I hate hype of any kind, especially when I think that it's being blind.
But now all this talking is making me want to play the first one again.

Well, I started playing H1 at a LAN place about 3 weeks before H2 was coming out. I had no interest before that, and didn't care for the hype. Thinking Bungie a lost cause, swallowed up by the big M.
I was so hooked, that I bought an XBOX just for H2. So I know that at least for me, the addiction is purely in-game, no hype. I pursue game design/implementation as a hobby, so I could go on for pages about why I feel the Halo series sets itself apart from other FPS. But it's rather specific, in-depth, and potentially boring as tar, so I don't talk about it unless someone REALLY wants to hear. :P
If you're getting re-interested in H1, you should look at some of the changes they're implementing in H3. They're bringing a lot of elements the fans missed back, tuning many of the things people complained about in H2 and I believe making the best Halo yet. Hype or no.

y'know, he very well could be. To be honest the only thought I gave the lighting was cold and harsh/overexposed. Could be craft, could be the moon, could be some crazy place on a Halo, not really sure... maybe deep within a forerunner structure, activating some hidden machine?
No damn clue, just doodling with out thinking. :)
