So here's a blast from the past: anyone remember my character Hope? She's a feline in the New Haven City setting who was severely injured in a car crash and a family of tiny mice built her a new body. The mice live inside her and keep her running, and in return she protects them from other predators.
I've been meaning to redesign her for a while! Here's Hope 2.0, now capable of eating larger prey!
Ask me questions on my Curious Cat! Feel free to ask questions to either me or one of my characters.
If you're so inclined, I'd much appreciate it if you'd buy me a coffee!

Ha! I actually was hoping for her to get a reference, she's one of my old favorites of yours. Love the redesign! I like how parts of her are much more obviously mechanical now, with a separation between her organic and cybernetic parts. And even as a cyborg, she's still a cutie~
Wow, inventive concept! I've always liked the rarely-seen idea of someone being inhabited by smaller folk, and just about everything else about her are things I've never seen done before. Hope to see more of her... gotta go find her old story, now that you've mentioned it.
Thank you! I definitely think the idea of an inhabited person has some potential. I've got at least one or two other pictures planned, and now that she's on my mind again maybe I can explore her a bit more.
I won't make you search, though! The old story is called Biofuel, and you can find it right here!

When Hope goes for a jog does it sound like this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U20BRIGpJig
So, the rooms are stabilized, but the passageways aren't (I mean, they really can't be when you think about it). That implies that when Hope seriously exerts herself (say, chasing prey), the mice have to pause what they're doing — after all, the roof could suddenly become the floor, or the passages might be blocked completely. Sleeping might be interesting as well.
Your assumptions are correct! The mice have difficulty doing some things while Hope is moving around a lot. There are a few things mitigating this, though:
1) The rooms can be "locked" into place (by pulling a lever near the doors), turning the stabilization off and keeping the passageways lined up. In fact, as a safety procedure, they never pass from a room into a passageway or vice-versa without doing this -- you don't want someone being cut in half by a passageway suddenly moving!
2) Hope can actually feel the mice scurrying around inside her, and has a general knowledge of where they are. While the mice insist that she should not worry about this and go about her life like normal, she probably takes some amount of care to not dislodge or jostle them if she can help it.
3) The mice are all naturally very good at climbing, and the passageways/rooms are built around this. The passageways are less "hallways" and more "narrow tunnels with ladders and access panels," and the mice are all good enough at climbing that they could take a sudden 180 degree turn mid-passage without too much trouble. The rooms are similarly designed, mostly pretty cramped with lots of hand- and foot-holds and everything possible secured in place, so it isn't a big deal if everything suddenly gets turned upside down.
In addition, the mice probably work "night shifts" sometimes, doing maintenance jobs while Hope is asleep, both because she's moving around less and it won't disrupt her day.
