Well, I finished it, I think. I like the look of most of it, though the tail still bothers me a bit. I think I may tweak it some. If so, I'll post an update here.
As egotistical as it sounds, I really like working with this sprite. It's simple, fun, and the colors are vivid. I kind of want to do more animations with him. You know, the basics: walking, running, jumping, etc.
EDIT: Updated the sprite. Changed and improved a few things, based on suggestions here. Changed the sleeve on the backswing thanks to
CaptainGerBear and
Namiel, changed the feet to shift a bit thanks to
Roxikat, and changed the tail swinging animation because I couldn't stand the old one any more.

It's really cute, and I don't think you have anything to worry about regarding the tail, it looks fine. The thing that bothers me about it is actually the sleeve popping up on the backswing. I doubt you'd get enough free movement with a Tshirt sleeve to get that kind of secondary action. Otherwise, c'est magnifique.
It's supposed to make it seem more like it's going into the background, but eh... it didn't turn out how I wanted. I think I'm gonna redraw the tail, make it hang lower and make it the tuft swing more side-to-side rather than the actual tail.
I think this is the first time I've dealt with a tail animation (that wasn't 8-bit), so I got some work to do.

This is pretty awesome. I need to do sprites more often. I usually end up with super-detailed though so it's a bit hard to animate. I'm bad at keeping things simple. Even my animated ones are kind of over-complicated and not very animated. This one has a lot of fluidity and looks great.
