Got to see my first funnel cloud and dust sheath tornado since I was about 15 today!
Official reports of it start right about the time I saw it, tho they’re initially designating it a “land spout”.... basically a giant dust devil.
Thing is, I saw the funnel 2 full minutes before I saw the dust sheath.
After about 5 minutes, a rain hook obscured my view of the storm.. and I went on with my day.
Apparently tho, this tornado raged for around 20 minutes and covered over 5 miles on the ground with destruction!
There’s some really cool pics and videos if you look for them.
Twister took place on north side of Denver, Colorado. On the date of this post, also look for Brighton and Greeley tornado with this date.

That is a pretty clear photograph of a land spout tornado. Land spouts differ from normal tornadoes in that unlike normal tornadoes, they form from the ground into the storm cloud instead of the other way around. They also tend to be not as strong, usually around EF-0 to EF-2.
