A few weeks ago one of my former first grade teachers sent me one of my childhood drawings, which you can see and compare here - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/42250789/
I was really into centaurs then. Being unexpectedly confronted by my younger self felt a little like a challenge. I decided to draw that same scene again.
It's tempting to say I've come a long way since then, but the more I worked at this the more I started to realize, my basic approach to drawing hasn’t changed much since I was seven.
My details are finer, and I erase and restart more, but when a picture starts to flow there’s no big difference in how an adult or a child puts a line down. At the risk of sounding florid, it felt like a meeting point between my older and younger self. I recommend revisiting something you created years ago. You might find that, in some way, your two selves aren’t so very different after all.
The only real difference between this drawing and the childhood one is I added a butterfly.

I had a bit of a thing for centaurs when I was a kid too...
Talk about revisiting your younger self, I haven't thought about this in years: Everytime I came across an interesting picture of a horse I'd trace it up to its neck & draw the human part of the centaur instead. Can't remember how many of these I drew; there must've been a lot of interesting pictures of horses at the time.
